Though I had already requalified for Plat with SPG, I don't mind their promo. Most of the hotels use a formula suggested by SPG for prioritizing room upgrades. IIRC, the criteria include years with program, years as elite, total SPG points earned over time, current points balance, room rate, prior stays at that hotel, etc.
So, odds are a nouveau Plat won't end up snagging your upgrade if you have demonstrated loyalty over the years. I anticipate with Marriott's rollover I'll have a handful of nights to start me off toward 2010 status with them, too. |
Interesting that they are pretty much hiding DEQM behind the OnePass changes....

That and the fact that DL will have to match are the only positives. Why can't we have natural selection for Plats? :D |

Cool - I'll be the nouveau Plat in the standard room on the 2nd floor overlooking the parking lot.
If room upgrades are what you crave, then SPG Plat is the best dealer on the block. :D |

Aside from a few notoriously Plat-unfriendly hotels (Sheraton NYC Hotel/Towers comes to mind), it's a rare day when that happens at any SPG property. Besides, if you target primarily Leisure/Resort properties, it's virtually unheard of (unless the property is just flat sold-out for a wedding, or something).
My first stay as a Plat will be at the LM Barcelona. We're checking in on NYE, so that should be a good test at an upgrade.

1 I am kinda pissed off that I did not draw a plat match with nw. 2 happy birthday to me. I drew double eqms as my present. ( I turned 27 yesterday) 3 I hope for a dl/nw match so I can hope to retain silver with them. |

Okay. Gotta do some work. Earn some money for MR's to work towards getting to Plat. MM Plat, that is.

From the horse's mouth, an aviator on the Reagan: "The picture is a flyover of the carrier by two jets from our air wing, along with two Indian Sea Harriers and Jaguars. The jaguars are the jets on the right side of the formation (the top of the picture), the lead is a Super Hornet, the other two are Harriers, and the Hornet is kind of hiding behind one of the Harriers."

Kind of a lucky guess. The nose gives it away.

Unbelievable. I will now end the year with probably close to 200k EQM's. I would like to see some sort of rollover EQM's or other benefits for current Plats.
