My first and only Waffle House experience to date was in ATL - glad I finally got to go, always wanted to and wasn't disappointed.
I can't stand those places, then again I grew up in the south where they are on every interstate and the only place to eat at 4am that is open. And I got more than my share of SMOKE as a kid eating in those dumps. Next thing I hear someone will be raving about how great skillets is.....or shoneys. |
Well, if you are going on a cruise from BCN, you need to schedule yourself to arrive in BCN at least the day before because if something happens, you still can make the cruise even with a 24 hour delay (which is what frequently is the case when an international trip gets screwed up). So that cuts into your time anywhere else by a full day and seems to leave you two days or less anywhere else.
If you are going to MAD and then definitely want to go to Toledo, that is nearly a full day trip, leaving you with precious little time to do anything else there. My thinking when you said "a day or two" was that you would be precluded by time from taking any of the fascinating day trips form there. BCN, on the other hand, is much more compact and you can get to see just about everything that is there in two or three days (although you can't get to every great tapas place and restaurant). As far as dirty and crime-ridden, we don't seem to remember anything like that out of the ordinary and we stayed right in the heart of it all on Las Ramblas. However, we are native New Yorkers and the fear of that sort of stuff would not much worry us anyhow. It just seems to me that the logistics of your trip would seem to favor BCN. You will have plenty of time in your future travels to see Paris or Madrid and each of them is worth much more time than you have to give either of them right now. |
Waffle House - yum. Las time I experienced one was in June, 2007. My wife (gf at the time) and I were moving her down to Houston. We stopped for breakfast at the one in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The ambiance wasn't anything to write home about, but the food left my arteries bunched up. ^

There are a few more options in Murfreesboro now. I have a Waffle House less than 3/4 of a mile from my home and haven't visited ...
I fiqured I averaged 16000 miles on the road a year for each year on the debate team. I think that is why I love to travel so much by air now! You think a CRJ fully loaded is small, think about a 15 passenger van with 14 college students and 1 debate coach! |

Two places that I miss since leaving LAS are IN-and-Out and Fat Burger. One more is Capriotti's and their Thanksgiving Diver on a bun!
OK there are a lot more places but those are the first three to pop in my head! |

Ah Murfreesboro. It was a nice town. The thing about debating in college is that we didnt have a lot of funds so we drove to all our tournaments. This particular tournment we had gone to Maryland for Jr. Nationals the week before from SAT and then on the return went to the National Tournament at Middle Tennesse State. That was a long three weeks.

We have as many as six days to use between wedding and cruise. The way it's working now, the wedding is set for 11/7 and the cruise leaves from BCN 5pm 11/14.

You could go pretty much anywhere you two desired on the continent with six days.
