Mrs. Mackie and I made it back home this afternoon from our weekend south of the pit. My Dad gave me an old laptop that he had no use for. As it turns out, it's a prime candidate for a portable Linux laptop, which is exactly what I've done this evening. It is making it much easier to deal with not having a desktop computer at home, and I don't have to break out the work laptops to do stuff.

In other good news, my new computer should be here either tomorrow or Tuesday. Waiting on FedEx to update their site so I can figure out when I need to be home to receive the package. Now I need to get some RAM to upgrade this laptop, a replacement hard drive for the old desktop that crapped out (so I can convert it into a file server), a miniPCI WiFi module for this laptop, and a webcam so that Mrs. Mackie and I can use Skype to video conference while she is stuck in CLL three nights a week for the entire summer.

It's only money, right?

Wow, that would be awesome. I need some PC2700 DDR in an SODIMM. I've got two slots that will hold up to 2GB (2x1GB). Right now it has 2x256MB so even a single 1GB SODIMM would be a considerable upgrade. When do you think you might be able to check? I was planning on placing an order with Newegg this evening.
