I took it IAD to EWR recently and had the biggest man I ever saw on an airplane ahead of me. They had to move passengers to balance the weight and he refused to use the two seat side as one seat. He filled the isle and the skinny flight attendant could barely pass.

FWIW, I've shed 85 pounds over the past 18 months (270 -> 185), so only my height (6'4") and fitting in the BBDS pose any issues on a given flight. And 12A is thankfully a EBBDSR seat, so I'm hoping I am golden.

That's great although I think I found some of the lbs you recently shed. I've found being 5'4" is just about the perfect height for flying. I can reach the overhead and see the movie but the head rest works just fine. In some configurations my knees do hit the next seat so I really feel for you tall folk.

That could also be a sign that you need the services of a good exterminator. Woodpeckers may have small brains but they're not stupid... Just hungry. They'll peck away where there's bugs 'n such.

It does remind me of a great joke though.....



Two tall, majestic trees have been standing silent in a forest for years. One day the taller of the two looks down and sees a small sapling growing on the forest floor. He turns to his buddy and says, “You know, I think that little guy is one of mine. It’s a son of a beech!”

His buddy looks down and says, “No, I don’t think that’s one of yours. I think it’s one of mine. I think it’s a son of a birch!”

The two trees, having nothing better to do, argue for weeks back and forth, “Son of a beech!”

“No, son of a birch!”

“I’m sure it’s a son of a beech…”

“Well, I’m sure it’s a son of a birch…”

Finally, the beech tree notices a woodpecker flying past. He flags the bird down and says, “You know trees pretty good. Maybe you could settle an argument between me and my friend here. I think that little sapling down there is one of mine, in other words a son of a beech. My buddy insists that it’s a son of a birch. Could you settle this for us?”

The woodpecker agrees to settle the argument once and for all and proceeds to peck away at the little sapling to determine it’s parentage. After a while pecking at the tree he turns to the two trees and says, “Well, I’m sorry but this sapling is neither a son of a beech or a son of a birch… But it is the finest piece of ash I’ve ever stuck my pecker in!”

Thanks for the giggle (and there were "ash" in my backyard until recently). I contacted an expert about the woodpeckers years ago and was told of this spring behavior and exterminators found no evidence of a food source. It's only in the spring that this usually happens and they are very attracted to this area since there were rotting apple trees where my house was built. The three houses originally were cedar shake built on this lot and the woodpecker did extensive damage so two of us switched to vinyl siding. Darn woodpecker likes the noise the aluminum gutters make! Other neighbor has huge mechanical spiders that decend when the pecker hits and scares it away!
