Back at PTY. Just bummed around the city for a few hours. I am number 1 on the upgrade standby list for PTY-MEX and there's one seat unsold in Clase Ejecutiva, so here´s hoping. I´am bummed that the PTY lounge does not have showers given how hot Panama is, but I bought a washcloth at a mall in town and will do the best I can to freshen up (including change of shirt and unmentionables) prior to the MEX flight. The upper 80 degree weather is a welcome change from the cold weather of the Northeast.

It is an excellent city for generalized loafing-about. :-:

Did you see any minivan taxis there in PTY?!

I thought PTY had showers...that hotel in MEx is looking even better now!

Nice job! I'll also be the only Louisianian (hell...only Southerner) at the party. Last week I asked the owner of one of my favorite beer bars to get something local in honor of the Saints. He happily obliged and will have 2 Abitas for us...going to bring a couple of growlers to the party to wash down the Rabbit and Andouille jambalaya. :)

Havent't made homemade salsa in a while, but enjoy it enough to eat an entire bowl with a spoon.
+1 on the beer choice

No, although these are indeed effective provisions. I already had one of the containers of pancetta ^. The pancetta and deli tray alone were worth more than $26.

Actually, I decided to go the local/el cheapo route for getting into the city and used the public autobus to Via Espaņa for USD $0.25 instead of paying $25 for a taxi. On the way back, I decided to taxi it, but I dont recall seeing any minivan taxis.

The 12-15 passenger "minivans"? I had one by myself from the airport to the hotel one evening and the driver let me sit in the front seat because I couldn't get into the back ...

So, I am at the US Air Envoy lounge at PHL. I have to say, this is pretty sweet.
If you never been, you should def check it sometime! The food is yummy, self serve wine bar is great, and the view is unbeatable! If only it weren't so grey and cloudy!

It's 5 pm, and not a flake on the ground yet! Looks like I am A-OK for wheels up at 6:25. Rio here we come!^

I used to be a frequent guest in the Envoy club. I enjoyed that lounge. That was one of the few nice things about US. I still don't miss flying US, though. A-West is a very nice terminal. Have fun in Rio!^

Might only be down here but Johnsonville makes New Orleans andouille spicy sausage. ^

i can rent a car for us for $28, so it seems cost effective for that....just need to find some maps of the area now!

I didn't see the story about the IAH Express bus, but it looks like it affects Houston/Harris County taxpayers, not the riders.

The taxpayers are the ones being taken for a ride, so to speak.

Going back through my mind:

- I'm sure gas was about $1 a gallon more expensive in PTY.
- I seem to recall with rental contracts credit card insurance wasn't sufficient.
