Doesn't nearly everyone reserve their stay in advance? I feel we need the Seinfeld car rental skit here.

Yes and no. It wasn't quite clear just how FUBAR things were until I spoke with the pilot afterwards.

Glad it worked out!

Indeed, though it gave me an opportunity to speak with the pilot and understand why there was a yank to the left towards the end of the approach. With my Asbergers-esque "familiarity" of a flight not knowing what happened probably would have bothered me more.

Of course KLAX is down on liveatc.net so no recording that I can find of the conversation. I'll just have to make it up when I produce the quotes for my blog. :p

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the autopilot was compensating for a slight crosswind and the pilot didn't have his feet firm on the pedals.

Trust me, it was yuck all around. ;)

Nope. Plane behind us reported it in to ATC as a variation on the localizer, too.

I thought the list only had one item :D

Their A330s arguably have one of the best J and Y+ products of any airline. The trick is, knowing what route they will be deployed on in any given month (the route map is constantly in flux).

Now that's the scary part.

I wonder if the weather is playing a part in messing with the localizer.

Do you know if it was the middle marker?

Does UA build fuel-surcharges into their fares?

I am pricing out the exact same itinerary on CO and .bomb and UA quotes me $82 in taxes/fees while CO is $200+

My experience is that they break them out as YQ. At least that is how they display on ITA.

Phew! Glad you made it safely.

I once had a very hairy landing in Sydney. Coming in from Auckland, landed in Sydney in the rain. The plane skidded sideways on the runway. Almost pooped myself thinking we were going into the bay.

Wait, wait, wait... How are gloves and jalapeņos involved?

I wear gloves when I'm slicing/cutting potentially stinging peppers as I have a tendency to move fingers to eyes when I'm having a watery eye (allergy) day. Well, I must have not noticed that somehow I put a cut into the glove, and when I finished cutting and removing the seeds from the peppers, gloves came off, went to wipe eye, and  FAIL!

For those interested in the Devils tickets please follow the conversation on Facebook. It's on my Wall under the headline about the Kovalchuk deal. I only ask this because that is likely the primary source of breaking news, and because most of the interested parties are friends anyway.

It could be weather - plenty of rain out here. I'm not sure which marker it was specifically. The pilot mentioned issues with the localizer and the glide slope and then clarified that it was the localizer when we were on the ground. He was NOT happy during that conversation. ;)
