assuming 31A is open and 31E isnt, Id still rather have 31B and 31D, but she will still be able to switch with whomever is in 31A, if that person doesnt want to , no problem put the bassinet in front of 31B and it wont take too long for 31A to be open , unless 31A is such an idiot and decides to save face they will endure it that way. But no loss as they will still have 31B & 31D.
Keeping it as is I see as a win-win and lets the OP still have their options open. Switch now and there isnt a Bassinet by A/B thats 1 flight they will Never forget
PS Seat Guru has been Wrong numerous times

BTW. You didn't say if your toddler was ticketed. Seat or not, it's required. See the following quote from CO's web site:
"Infants traveling within the 50 U.S. do not require a ticket. All infants traveling internationally must have a ticket, even if no seat is purchased.
Infants traveling to Canada, Mexico and some destinations in the Caribbean only pay taxes on the ticket. Infants traveling to other international destinations are charged 10 percent of the adult fare."
And I believe that the bassinet attachment points are basically just small holes with a fitting in the bulkheak. They take a pair of rods extending from the bassinet which are kept in storage somewhere on the plane.

Also from the website:
"Continental offers bassinets on select international/ transcontinental flights for infants weighing 22 lbs (10 kg) or less. Bassinets should be requested at the time reservation is made as quantities are limited. Bassinet requests cannot be confirmed in advance."
So make sure you call in and reserve a bassinet, not only a bassinet capable location.

We can start our online check in tomorrow(WED) at 2.30pm-ish, so not that far away. As of now, 31A is still open. We're hoping to have a slight advantage of online check in because we'l be able to select seats for the IAH-AMS flight earlier than those taking a direct flight to AMS because the flight from our hometown to IAH leaves almost 5 hours before IAH-AMS does.
Just in case there is no bassinette position we're keeping the seats we have now, and will see what happens tomorrow. If either E or F is open, we'll move my husband to that seat.
Thanks for all your input and will let you know what we'll do.
As far as seatguru being wrong, I am sure they are sometimes, but the aircraft info on the CO website also mentions that 31AB and KL are bass. positions. Could the CO site be wrong on that also?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt the CO web site is incorrect. It diefinitely makes sense for flexibility to have as many bassinet positions as possible (which can only be on bulkheads) even if only four bassinets on carried on the plane.

You might have some luck, because if I was boarding a plane to AMS (from either EWR or IAH...doesn't matter), and I saw a bassinet next to me, I would do everything possible to try and move to another seat.
No offense, but the thought of sitting next to some kid for 6-12 hours just isn't my cup of tea! I'm sure that many others feel the same, so viola, you might have an instant free seat next to you!

Never underestimate the stupidity of the "average American" who will follow orders and not think for themselves. If they are told that that is their seat, they will sit there and keep quiet about it, kid or no kid.

cant count the times I had Joe USA next to me in the middle seat. Boy what it took till I got them to grab the aisle seat of the person who just got a Battlefield. or at least the middle seat in the bulkhead due to more room.
I would Never try and get someone to take another seat if it wasnt a better seat

Well, 23h55m before flight take off, we did the online check in thing. E and F were both occuppied, so I moved myself to 31A
Hmmm... that not be a couple sitting together, cause when I booked these ticks half a year ago, the agent on the phone told me she couldn't put my husband in 31E, even though it was still empty... odd. If there is no bassinet in front of AB I'm going to cause a stampede. I've had 2 CO reps assuring me on the phone it is a bassinet position as well as the CO website saying it is. I think it will be a good flight
Thanks everyone!
