You have an excellent point, there rkkwan. I would like to see CO carry more regional beers in their galleys. It would be a really nice gesture to have a new selection to choose from. For instance, ok, I would imagine that 30% of all passangers that go through IAH a year are from Houston, or within a short distance. That means that they have been exposed to a regional beer such as Shiner Bock. Thus, if they are a true drinker
, they would like Shiner Bock, and would order it. Just like US sold Yingling (sp) beer on flights in/out of PHL...quite a long time ago. And WN...gold help 'em....is the only airline that stocks Dr. Pepper regularly...this might entice customers to buy a ticket from that airline...all other things equal. I think that if CO carried beer from, say....CLE-area, "Mr. Average Flyer" might consider buying a ticket from them rather than the competition.
I'd like to see more thought into this, but I think it's a smart...and tasty business decision. ^

Alaskan Airways serves Alaskan Amber, a great microbrew and probably the best bottle I can think of on a domestic airline.
Shiner Bock would make a lot of sense and would be so much more enjoyable than a Heiny or Fosters.

I like regional beer selections and if they are truly regional, they might not always be the same -- many regional beer-makers don't make all of their beers all of the time, or at least don't expect you to drink them all of the time. I love it when I'm in a DL CRC and they have great local micro-brews (SLC springs to mind as this is the only CRC I've been to on multiple occassions) and I don't care that they don't offer the "same" ones everywhere; I just wish that the ones that don't offer it at all (and the PCs/WCs) did!
That being said, I'm not sure if CO would likely sell any more beer if they had good beer. The average beer drinker out there will drink Bud Light without blinking. I might not, but I'm probably not the target beer market as I'll rarely pay for one in coach and even if I do, I'd only have one.

I remember the Sam Adams-in-a-bottle days fondly. I also remember a flight to Houston (from EWR) where they had Pete's Wicked Summer Brew. I remember it distinctly b/c we were delayed in EWR b/c of an ice storm in Houston, and the FC cabin was making merry with the Summer Brew! Although Foster's is ok, my biggest complaint (and the reason why I don't get beer as often) is that it's not COLD enough. I'm sure there are some who will try to convince that a cool, or even warm, beer is preferable, but I like 'em nice and cold...

Nice to see the beer lovers stand up and be counted. For those attending the not-quite Micro-DO on 3/31, you're in for a treat at the Flying Saucer (if you've not been before).
Perhaps CO could have a pilot program offering premium beers for sale in the PC, to float the idea and see if it's commercially feasible. If the beer doesn't sell...free beer for the PC employees

I'll add my two cents that the current beer selection is lame. It seemed particularly lame when I was recently flying home from Germany. They used to stock some "local selections" on int'l routes: has that practice been abandoned?
Since they're now charging 5 bucks in the main cabin, you would think CO could afford to stock an "interesting" beer. As previous posters mentioned, Petes Wicked Ale and some others have made appearances in years past. And I agree that Fosters is a strange selection.
As a Texas airline, Shiner Bock would make an excellent choice. It's tasty and what I would consider "accessible" to a general beer drinking audience. They also seem to have dramatically boosted their distribution in recent years. Yuengling would be another good regional choice. And I don't see what's wrong with "mixing it up" on board. It might a bit interesting to see what was available on any given flight.
And it couldn't be worse than the current selection.

I'll cast another vote for regional beers from hub cities, and local beers at PCs although Shiner might mean I'd connect at IAH more than EWR.

One of the perks of switching from DL to CO is Bombay Sapphire over Tanqueray. But I do like a good beer so yes I would like some real beer choices.

Let me start by saying that I whole heartedly support a better beer selection on board. I enjoy good beer and have brewed my own in the past. Can't say that I like Shiner bock though. Kind of bland. Pete's or Sammy, now were talkin'. Better yet, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
Back to the topic at hand, I think the current selection is a result of cost (lowest bidder) and wanting to avoid glass for weight, breakage, injuries, labels falling off etc. Plus, no glass allowed in the cabin during pre-dep drinks, that means one cup delivered, not the whole bottle, or can like now (and if you recall, we used to serve pre-d wine in a glass).
