If you have status in Contiental right now and are good for all of 2007, but at the end of 2007 realize that you do not have enough miles to make elite in 2008, can you use your continental status and get that staus matched in another airline, and then when 2008 rolls around match back to continental....understand what I am saying??? Thanks!
kind of tacky - to say the least. almost like stealing.
I doubt that it would work. When I did a status match with Delta, the T&Cs on the web page said it was one match per lifetime. The match gives you a year of the status benefits while you earn it yourself. But give it a try and let us know how it works out for you.
ive used my co status to match twice. once on DL (never once flew them after the match) and once on HP (that worked out nicely).
in both cases, not only did they want a faxed copy of my OP elite card, they wanted 6 months worth of statements showing my flight patterns and a short, official request for the match, in writing.
i would assume UA or AS would never comp my status after seeing that nearly 100% of my elite qualifying flights are msy-phx or msy-fla. i would never connect in ORD or SEA to get to those places and without a good explination as to why i think they should comp (like an upcoming move), they'd probably deny my request.

Has anyone ever tried this. I have status with CO for all of 2007, but when the end of 2007 rolls around, i I use my CO status and match with another airline, in early 2008 can I use the status with the other airline to match back to CO - has anyone ever tried this...I don't want to brea the rules, just want to see if this is allowed and if anyone has ever done this. Thanks!!!
I agree it's kind of tacky.
And it may not work unless you fly enough during 2007 so that when you fax in your statements that they see enough activity to warrant status (in other words, I think they are more likely to match elite status earned the hard way, than elite status that wasn't earned).
Your better option if you end up with too few miles is to contact OP and ask for them not to downgrade you.
But the best option is to get renewed by flying enough segments. If you think your travel will be light this year, it gives you a whole year's opportunity to do MRs.

The problem is that there are no "rules" regarding status matches, they are at the airlines' discretion. And I can tell you that in order to get a status match, in most cases, you need to provide proof of flying history on the other airline that you are using to claim your match on CO. If your status on that other airline was comped, and you can't provide supporting documentation of any flying activity, I can guarantee you with near-100% certainty that CO will NOT match status. Don't waste your time.Originally Posted by Kobi

Most airlines will want to see the first full statement for the calendar year in which you are requesting matching status. Ie: if you want 2008 match on AS for UA they will request the first full statement issued by UA in 2008 (not mid-Dec 2007 - mid-Jan 2008) to verify the status. Additionally, I wouldn't put it past the airlines to have an internal contact at other airlines to verify that status. Hence, if you have status that ends, and want reciprocal status that would technically begin after the original status ends, they may catch that through the verification process. If not - hey, you got one over on them BUT I do agree, that is rather underhanded and not "above-board."Originally Posted by Kobi
