I was on CO 90 - considering the day's events and the weather in Newark, getting there only about 3 hours late after a short stop in CLE seemed like a good enough end to a long day.

The crew was terrific, by the way, good natured, lots of communication, everything was very clear about what was going on the whole flight.

It's always cheaper for CO to divert to CLE than another airport, largely because of CO's large presence there. It's always easier to make a pit-stop where you have a home, follow?

Plus, CO had to pay for that extra landing... CLE's landing fees are cheap to begin with, but especially for CO given their relationship with the airport.

Well, it's relative... and I'm not sure CLE has made their fees public, but I do know that the reason UA used to fly their DC-10s and 767s into CLE was because it was MUCH cheaper to park them at CLE than in ORD...

Plus, CO has a relationship with the City. I wouldn't be surprised if CLE was giving CO a break considering the hub operation... and how badly CLE needs CO to maintain it!

Nope actually they lowered them. I just read it last week, that the fees are now some of the lowest in the country.

Also, Cleveland has the lowest premium fares in the midwest (5/6 lowest in the states) according to a USDOT report that come out at the end of July. The report studied what Cleveland passengers pay/paid for flights compared to passengers at other airports.
