Does anyone know how CO chooses the accounts "eligible" for the mileathon promotion? One of my Silver friends got picked last year and this year, but this year I didn't; hardly seems like a way to reward my loyalty (except for a few trips BWI-BDL on Southwest, because it's just SO cheap).
I called OP to ak about it, and they just said sorry, you weren't picked, no, our marketing department keeps the selection process confidential. I didn't push the complaint any farther, but I really think the offer should be either available to everyone or have some set selection criteria.
It got me an extra 10k miles when I did it last year!

I don't see any way to get on the band wagon. Perhaps if the marketing department keeps hearing complaints, that might help. I have found that irritations are cumulative and I know I have gotten ticked off more than once about the activities of the marketing department. As best as I can figure out, they seem to assume the loyalty of existing customers and try to build up others. That's fine. However, when I have found out that a co-worker has an easier way to build miles than do I, I am really annoyed. I spend more money than the person receiving the "favors."
Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to win CO's loyalty to you; however, if they tick off enough people, there's very little that CO can do to win back the loyalty of departing customers.

It seems that the more $$$ you spend on CO, the more likely you are to be selected for a promo. I have a silver colleague who travels on CO only three or four times a year, but in paid F or BF every time: once or twice DCA-SFO in F, once to HNL in BF, and maybe another HNL or DCA-Europe paid BF. He has repeatedly been chosen for promotions while another plat colleague has not. My plat colleague flies about 80k on mostly mid-range and lower Y fares. Both qualified for the most recent Mileathon, however. If you're a run-of-the mill, T class-flying silver, chances are CO isn't going to let you in on the promo action.
I wouldn't expect complaining to be very successful with respect to this issue.

I believe that the above posters are correct. It's going to depend on MONEY spent on full fare (or high fare) tickets. However, I would urge you to write a brief, concise letter expressing your disappointment. While it may not affect your individual situation, it will alert the marketing department that there are unhappy customers out there.

not nescessarily true...i got selected, im not elite, fly 20K miles/year, +/- 3K, once to europe, then across the us. I always buy cheap, so i think it is to get me motivated TO fly, not to reward.
