Flew FLL-->IAH last week on an AVOD equipped 757. The system is very, very nice. It is definately LINUX based (the FA had to reboot it, so all the screens displayed the boot process). The system offers touchscreen controls, wide-aspect screen, and good resolution. A very nice job, indeed.
The audio quality was nothing special, and really no different than the older systems - it would be nice if they upgraded to better sound or headsets to match the new system.
One design note: the screen and arm are bigger, so the top covering doesn't completely close - this leaves your (or your neighbor's) drink at a precarious angle if you place the cup there. Use caution during turbulence, or when your neighbor seems to have nonstop arm spasms designed to send the cup flying.

If the system is made by Rockwell Collins it is programed in Linux just like their other AVOD systems.

I agree. I would love the ability to surf and work while travelling back from Europe!
