Upgrades:

Continental 16/20 80% success

Northwest 3/4 75%

United 4/9 66% (3 UAX segments)

Percentage airline was used:

Continental 60%

Northwest 13%

United 27%

Total: 100%

I must admit, though I'm not really a big fan of OP, I still prefer CO service over NW. UA is much better for the more extensive widebody fleet and 3 class aircraft. However, I don't get any free UG's with UA...the only exception being the 500 E-upgrades for every 10K miles flown. One thing going for UA though is that, although the upgrades are not free/unlimited, they do have E+ which I prefer so much more than NW/CO's coach product. (Just wanted to add that I wasn't really happy when I got a non E+ UA B777 on my two SFO-FRA runs back in March/April.)

I'll suggest that Elite level does make a difference for upgrades. My caveat is that I am a CO plat, Y travel 65%.

CO - 15%, 98% upgrade
NW - 83%, 100% upgrade
DL - 2%, no status, pure hell

i think you are absolutely right; however, it seems that many people are complaining (golds and ecspecially plats) about poor percentage rates of upgrades. but these numbers for the most part say things are not too bad.

the main reason for this thread is to determine how much money we are NOT giving continental; yet, getting our elite status and such. the upgrade numbers just allow for a more complete picture of our experiences as customers of these airlines.

thanks for the comment, keep the numbers coming....

CX: 20%
QF: 20%
BA: 15%
AA: 40%
SR: 5%

What was the question again?

Keep in mind, I am CO Plat! And-- I may take a CO award flight before the year is over-- so I should be included!

This will be my last post to the CO board. Good luck, friends!

NW 85% 100% upgrades
CO 15% 100% upgrades
AS >1% 100% uprgade (cost $100 though) only took 1 segment, did not know the free U/G weren't part of the deal until I bought the ticket. It was a very pleasant flight though.

I have flown alot less this year than last, but will gain status on NW by Thanksgiving and then will "burn" CO miles on trips for family and friends.

The rest of the year I have slightly more currently booked on CO, but any new bookings will be on NW.

Hi.

I fly just about every week ... and use to primarily fly CO -- simply because I am EWR based ... and fares use to be competitive.

After 911, it has seemed like every other airlines fares have been much better than CO -- to the point where I can't justify paying the extra $300+ -- my company is flexible .. but will not allow me to take a CO flight when another is available for $300 less. I don't have any particular routings -- I am national -- but my experience for the last year has been --- I have flown every other airline more often than CO .... fortunately, I have 15K more on CO or NW to make 2003 plat (so sorry to see AmericaWest go - since I go west at least 1x per month)

Personally, I think CO fares in general, there are always some exceptions, are higher ... this will eventually hurt them ... as companies are tightening their wallets.

Only when I get a bump voucher and it is going to expire. Of course, if they have the cheapie fares like the $97 RT LAX-MIA last year, I go in a heartbeat!

I went to CMH about a month ago using a bump voucher on CO and the service was decent. Got another $300 bump voucher.

Next year I will be Gold again <sigh>, but plan on 90% NW.

--3 trips on CO (one was free from non-airline travel credit card miles) -- UG 66% as gold
--2 trips on NW -- UG 100%
--1 upcoming trip on CO

I go for the best price, and I've been "lucky" that CO has had those on my trips. I have no qualms with flying NW. Will probably switch to HP in the next year.

As a CO Plat:

Jan-March:

CO 80%/EUA Upgrade 95%
NW 20%/EUA Upgrade 100%

April:

CO 80%/EUA Upgrade 1.1%
NW 20%/EUA Upgrade 100%

(Anyone remember April?)

May-Present:

UA 90%/SWU Upgrade (Int'l) 100%
BD 5%/One-Way upgrades bought for cash for $150 at check in at gate 100%
SQ 5%/Op Upgrade 100%
CO/NW 0%

You do the math.
