I have question how many miles do you need to upgrade from coach with a bulk ticket to first class domestic flight for one person one way

CO offers a Onepass domestic award for travel in the USA for a round-trip upgrade for 20K miles. I don't know if they have a one-way version of the award, but if so, it would probably be 10K miles. I think the awards (at least in many cases) are good for regular published fares. What is a bulk fare? The bulk fare might not officially be upgradable. Also CO offers upgrades where you can pay (based on the number of miles) to upgrade. Again, not sure this is technically ok for a bulk fare, but worth asking at the airport.

Jetsetter is correct, round trip upgrades for 20k, and yes, you can do one ways for 10k. I cannot offer any further clarification on the bulk fare eligibility issue, though.

"Bulk" are NOT upgradable with miles. Domestically (48 states, maybe AK but definately not HI) elite upgrades are permitted per the atomic weight scale system.

If you've already booked your ticket, I suggest you call the OP Service Center. The above is true that "Bulk" may not be upgradeable at all.
Good Luck!

A friend of mine was travellng to HNL on a bulk ticket (travel agent discounted ticket). CO told her she couldn't upgrade with miles, but it turned out that CO could issue a cheaper, yet upgradable fare and all she had to do was cancel the "bulk" ticket!
Which she promptly did
So, don't always assume your travel agent is getting you the best fare!

You also need to make sure you contact CO with a week's notice or more. They issue the upgrade certificates in PAPER form which means you need to have them with you before you board.
If you need them with less than a week's notice, they'll FedEx them for $35. Ouch!
Yes, you can upgrade one-way for 10K. For full-fare it is only 5K. For Bulk seats, you may be out of luck. I've heard that it is not permitted, but have heard of it being done (see above).
Although I'd be willing to bet that you'd be at the bottom of the ladder.
Call CO when you request your mileage upgrade - if a reward FC seat is available, they can confirm it on the spot providing the fare is eligible.

The procedure I used when using miles to upgrade my daughter was:
Confirm that there are "F" seats avilable for upgrade on the flight(s) you want by way of ITN. If so, call CO and they will do the upgrade on the spot, assign seats, deduct points from your account, and mail you the paper certificates, which are supposed to be collected when you check in for the flight.
Good luck

I believe that Bulk tickets are "officially
non-upgradeable", but the one time I had them I was successful in upgrading them with mileage certificates at the ticket office. If one agent won't let you do it, try another. Sooner or later it will work.

She can check in the F/C line just like all the other F/C passengers. The line should be short so YOU BOTH can check in for your flight. I don't know what it is about Mothers not wanting to fly F/C but mine is the same way. Even though she doesn't pay for it, she won't take the gift.
