Even if legit, it is pretty pathetic and telling that they're trying to squeeze an extra $50 out of you, versus running the EUA. But no longer surprising unfortunately.
DEN-EWR on W fare. About 30 minutes later after T-24, first class was getting filled up to 15/16. I am not sure those are $49 upgrades or legit EUAs. If I knew this gonna happen, I would snag $ out of my pocket.

I spy some dodgy CO activity. 1-way W fare is $200 - I don't see an M loaded, but H beneath it is $367 (E is $699, B is $782).

What a wonderful thing it is to be loyal to an airline when they pull BS like this

There is always a light in the dark. I spoke with an extremely helpful CO rep and explained the situation. She was shocked how cheap the buy-up was and told me that EUA should run before any buy-up is offered. She promptly documented everything and "push" me through FC. ^

Nice you found an angel.

Too bad that the TODs are apparently back in vogue though.

Although the flight is full (checked availability and seatmap) it shows 3 seats available on the upgrade page. (Capacity: 12 | Booked: 9 | Checked In: 2 Customers Upgraded to First: 3) I believe the three upgrades were not updated in the "booked" number.

Following up on the above. Apparently they fooled themselves because they upgraded 3 additional persons based on the information above. They were busy down-grading them as the plane was boarding. They paid each one $250 in certificates for the "inconvenience".

So it cost them $750 on this flight. I guess you can fool some of the people some of the time, and yourself, too.

Have to agree that the EUA system is faltering. Twice I have seen 9 in F inventory two days before I as Plat am flying. I then am told at airport that Golds on discounted fares have gotten EUA upgrade. Three days from now, my wife and I, both Plats are still in back while EF shows 9 in F for Saturday. Very weird. Normally with 9 in F three days before travel, some GS and Plats have moved up. Here is the accurate inventory:

First EUA in a LOOOOONG time...another new fare code??

Fully open (by seatmap) F cabin for 10/21 FLL-EWR. No action at T+5 days (PresPlat)

EUA ran today, but at a REALLY odd hour. F now -3 (per seatmap).

Noticed that today EUA cleared into "R" instead of "PN". What Gives??

Full Disclaimer: This is my first time flying CO as an elite, so be gentle.
I'm flying SFO-IAH on the "redeye" tomorrow night. It's a 757-300 which shows F9 and 16 out of 24 F seats empty. Is it normal for EUA to not have run yet to upgrade people?

Is there any reason to check in as soon as possible or to wait closer to flight time? I don't know if that affects EUA.

Some believe it's just a "glitch" related to the new fare codes, others (such as myself) believe it's the new normal to help foster same-day F buy-ups.

Never hurts to check in early.

I, too, have reservations with the 'glitch' explanation. Sure, it has improved slightly in the past couple of weeks after tons of complain but still it is not what it used to be or what they are advertising. At least on my route (and a few that I monitor), I have not seen 5/4/3 day EUA - just 24 hrs or at the gate. But, heck, 24 hrs is not bad.

For example in the past couple of flights after UAInsider (Shannon) stated that this was fare class issue but a hotfix was applied... it went to T-24 or T21 - no 5 days/3 days, etc. While the booking showed 3/20, 4/20, and 7/20.

So... either the hotfix did not work or $mi$ek decided that he will try TOD initiative again, hoping that we get fooled during the so called technical issue.

But to answer the OP's question - check in As Soon As You can. I heard (no proof) that check-in time is some sort of tie-breaker, when necessary.

FYI - my next flight is in 48 hrs and it is showing 7/20 - no EUA! Sad...

Please fix this CO or provide an explanation UAInsider!

Doing CLE-IAH-SAN r/t and am watching -

Seat map has been at 8 F seat open for the last couple of weeks.

Not sure if any plats on the flight, but nothing changed on the map at 5 day window.

No change at 3 day for me (or anyone else as far as I can see).

Im being offerred the same buy-up to first for $390 each way (no thanks) that I have since booking.

Will keep posted.

I'm flying tomorrow as gold and partner as platinum. 9 seats are available.
I have no idea what is going on, especially for the platinum member.
