SWU strategy and changing FF programs
So, my traveling companion and I will both be 100Kers sometime this year. Given the proposed changes in the UA FF program I am seriously considering switching to Asiana for easier *G qualification.
Now, as I understand it, if I use my own SWU I have to have the miles credited to my OP account. If my traveling companion uses his SWUs to upgrade me, do I have to have my miles credited to my OP account or can I credit them to my new Asiana account? And conversely, can I upgrade my traveling companion and have his miles credited to Asiana?

It's all speculation

If you move your points to Asiana, you'll get no access to UDUs, CR-1, SWU or E+ on United. To me that makes no sense if you fly in the US. There's absolutely no reason to go with an overseas carrier for Star Gold qualification unless you plan to fly OZ everywhere or you don't want to pay for lounges in the US. That's pretty much all you'll get.
If you hate UA after the changes are announced I would move to AC or US. But they have their own issues.

Wouldn't it make more sense to wait until United officially announces the new MileagePlus program before jumping to any conclusions based on internet rumors?

Asiana gives me *G after 40,000 miles and I only have to fly 40,000 every two years to requalify. It seems the best way to open up my airline choices and retain *G.

And the uncertainty has given me the opportunity to think about the pros and cons or loyalty to one airline and I'm not sure it's worth the extra $ I spend to stay at least *G.
