2011 flight slowdown

I'm not sure how many of you have also been hearing about the slowdown CO pilots are planning to take come Jan 1, but apparently this is going to be their little ploy in anger against the new routes out of CLE/IAH/EWR on the E70/CR7. We've already seen the havoc this caused at UA years ago when their pilots were doing this, and I can only imagine how much this is going to hurt the new company as it moves forward to create a smooth integration.

If CO pilots are doing this, are we going to see UA mainline pilots doing the same as union members tend to always back other union members and their fight for ...........whatever?

Why would UA pilots do that? $misek hasn't violated THEIR scope clause, just CAL ALPA's. Boy and I thought CO had the better labor relations...

b/c you often see union members backing other union members simply b/c they are union members. The most recent CO shareholder meeting, you started seeing CO ramp agents standing and making comments like "we join our new friends at the pilots union" on topics that had nothing to do with the agents.

I get that part; there are going to be some issues when the idiot analysts who kept buying the whole "working together" schtick start realizing they were drinking the COol aid too. CO's pilots have been pissed off at management for quite a while (see the whole "loan is due" campaign in 2008! http://www.alpa.org/portals/alpa/pre...11_08.CAL6.htm.)

Fortunately for CAL ALPA and UA, and passengers, 50 seat RJ's are going to decline in prominence in the network, replaced by less frequency, but higher gauge, including mainline.

That's news to me because it's a rumor...I have friends in the CAL ALPA MEC and they do NOT condone any kind of unofficial union action that blemishes their "image"...in other words...bring it on...

It's probably a good thing that I am non-union because I think that any work rule violation is a job for The Union to deal with. If I was paying dues to another company (The Union) to represent me and my concerns, I would expect this company (The Union) that I pay to fight tooth and nail for me.

Is ALPA doing anything about this issue? Or is it just more or business as usual?

Oh boy...here comes the US/AW mess again!

Wonder what the billboard on I78/GSP will say??? (Anyone remember the US pilot/union funded billboard on I95??)

Maybe the FA's can join in the protest and stop giving out linens/warm nuts...oh wait..that is already in place!

More with extra special condiments courtesy of Prater from ALPA National.

One of the functions of a union is representing their members. Any disciplinary item, you typically can have your union rep there with you.

They're saying that officially they don't condone this. They're probably also winking and nodding at the same time.

Of course that's their stated position. There's a COntract between the employees and the COmpany that they must follow.

Now if a pilot decides to wait two hours to repair a maintenance item for a non-critical light at a remote outstation, that's not officially a work rule violation now is it?

Not sure if you were around during UA's Summer from Hell, but I'm thinking that stuff they're "allowed" to do (e.g., if they're allowed to refuse overtime, declare a plane unfit for a broken lav, etc.), that's what they're thinking about doing.
