Upgrade with miles (?)

Upgrade with miles (?)
I am a platinum elite going to Las Vegas with my wife for New Years. We originally booked coach tickets and I was instantly bumped to first class because it was a platinum upgrade fare. The Elite desk told me that my wife might get upgraded at the airport (companion upgrade) but that she would have better odds if I used 15,000 miles (each way so 30k total) from my account to upgrade her. Can anyone tell me if thats really true or if her odds are the same ? If I use miles when would she likely clear if she is going to get the upgrade. Thanks in advance for the help.

When you go online and check your reservation, if there is a link to "Upgrade with Miles" then click on the lilnk and follow the instructions. The upgrade is immediate so YES the "odds" are much better.

Not sure if you are coming from IAH, EWR, or CLE but if you are already in F, you should probably spend the miles to ensure your wife is, too.

Using the miles will put her at the top of the list relatively speaking. She will be ahead of just about everyone else trying to upgrade. The only folks ahead of here will be elites like yourself who buy expensive seats.

all - thanks for the help....we are coming from ewr and there is no link to upgrade instantly with miles so she is on the waitlist with my miles so that she is at the top of the list...thanks
