Okay, Canarsie, I found a very inexpensive way for you to get to the Soup Do.
Alamo is running a special -- $10 a day for a car up to a full size, with a pick up in Florida and a return out of state. Includes a tank of gas. Restrictions: Available to US residents and only good from April 1 until July 18. Minimum 5 day rental. Maximum 21 days.
1. Arrange for Traveller to rent the car in Melbourne.
2. Have her pick you up in Marietta.
3. Drive up to New York for the Soup Do and the BRT.
4. Return the car in Atlanta.
5. Traveller can find a cheap flight back to Melbourne.
Make the trip in 6 days, staying at Motel 6s and Days Inn all the way, and the cost will be $85.73 (with taxes) r/t. Sure, you will have to pay for some gas and tolls, but that can't add up to much. (Motel costs not included, but how much can those two brands run?)
And, seeing as you already have the car -- with unlimited mileage -- you can drive the UIG and me out to our hotel in JFK in the afternoon, pick us up for dinner, and drop us off after it.

Second, I would be more than happy to shuttle you and the UIG to and from dinner.
Lastly, if I can confirm myself to be in New York that weekend and you will be there also, the following is an absolute must for Sunday during the day:

Sounds good to me but I have a flight out of JFK at 8:30 pm (and as it is to Israel, with the extra security) I should be at the airport at 5:30. There is also a possibility that the UIG will be flying to Milan at 7 pm -- so this would have to be a lunch meet (and lunch meat would be acceptable).
If you decide you are coming, re-open the linked thread.

The room comes with one king-sized bed, so it might not be a good idea for you to tell your wife about Traveller.

Dovster and Canarsie... paws crossed even more that things can work out and you can make it.
Seat13C... I was thinking about your post and I believe antoher reason the numbers are low (at this point) this year than last is the ECONOMY. A trip to NYC can be a luxury for some and people are concerned about jobs and finances and other stuff.
I'm thankful that I get ONE GUEST to anything I organize. It's not one of the wildest or hippiest DOS out there but what I try to do with my events is keep them priced decently and allow everyone who comes to participate.
We already have a great party boiling at this Soup Do... if guests like Dovster and Canarsie make it we will have an even more hipper DO
But it's thre emonths away. I'll worry the week before on EVERYTHING!

Kathywrdf... HURRAY! Your PUrrfect attendance record continues!!! Welcome Back!
Rhino... this is a great event to get a taste of a first "significant sized" FT DO (an FT event of 12 or more people.) It's a great group and only will get better as I hope more people come aboard.
The BRT is also another great and legendary FT event where you can mingle with a lot of different FT-ers.
I'm looking at the guest list and we have such international flare from Israel to UK to Chicago and of course... the great nation of New Jersey.

Catman, is there any chance of you moving up the Soup Do by two hours?
Here's my situation -- I will be staying in a Manhattan hotel from June 8 to June 12. At 5 pm, I will be picking up a car from Hertz. If I wait until 8 pm for the Soup Do to start, we will probably get out around 10 pm, and then I will have an hour drive to my new hotel (near JFK). That gets us (the UIG will be with me) to the hotel at 11 pm, we will have to check in and by the time we unpack and get to bed it will be close to midnight.
If the Soup Do were to start at 6 pm, it would be much more workable for us.

Hi Catman,
Please add me to the confirmed list as well. This will also be my First FT DO! I think it will serve as a great introduction to the community, so I am really looking forward to it.

First it was Cite. This was the host restaurant to the famous CatmanDo's of yesteryear. They closed. Now, a fire at LBS.
When business is bad, somehow fires at a business cause it to close (permanently). I know that Catman has a 2nd choice in mind that will be purrfect.
FYI, the very first Brooklyn Reality Tour was an off-shoot of CatmanDo 3. At the time, it was the largest DO ever on Flyertalk. ^
I mention it for the one or two of you that don't know this.
