Mike... thanks for your heads up. On my "FT notebook" (a little appointment book I have) it reads your's and your's wife's names. I keep hard copy on almost everythign inc ase my computer melts!
I don't know why I typed MrpAlert and MrsMrp... don't even know if he's married! I must have been talking with another FT-er who mentioned MrpAlert and typed that. I never even met the guy! Yet.
Don't worry, you are confirmed. I"m looking forward to finally meet you after all this time.
We have room so hopefully more can join us!

Friendly weekly bump.
My Cat sitting associates are giving me the night off so I can enjoy my evening without hopefully no Feline emergencies (still happily waitlisted for BRT and hopefully going to make my third one!)

Right now, I would consider myself a "probable" and my UIG (Used Italian Girlfriend) a somewhat remote "possible". I will be able to give a definite answer about myself within a week but if the UIG is coming she will probably decide at the last minute.
I do, however, have several concerns which I would hope could be addressed here:
1. I am not big on soup. Can I get one of their hamburger dinners instead (without seeming overly gauche)?
2. I will be staying at a hotel near JFK. It has been a long time since I was in NY, but as I recall taking the subway during the late night hours is somewhat akin to walking around Gaza waving an Israel flag. How much will a taxi cost? Are there any other ways to get back to the hotel?

Why have I not noticed this thread sooner? Catman, I was going to PM you today to find out if this was happening this year and low and behold here's the thread.
Due to last year's great time, I wouldn't mind coming back for a round #2. Put me down as a yes, kind sir.
You're in for a real treat here. The dinner is excellent and the company is, well, uh, uh, ummm...
Nah, you will have a good time. I know I enjoyed myself last year.

Put chemist (+1) as attending. I bought tickets last night SNA-ORD-LGA arriving LGA at 5:15PM on the 12th. We should be able to make it. I'll update when I have my hotel plans. If we don't make it or are late, that is because we got delayed going into LGA. (We haven't been to LGA).
We are going to the Brooklyn event on the 13th and my wife (and I) are looking forward to a nice meal at the Soup DO.

Seat13C... welcome back to your second Soup DO! I was goign to PM you soon to mention the date.
chemist661: it will be nice to finally meet you and your wife. Welcome.
Dovster.. hope you can turn your probably and UIG's possible to CONFIRMS. THey do have a very nice hamburger which fredmartins and his sister enjoyed last year. IT's well made and tasty. The restaurant has many choices, all very good (although I always wait till any West Coast runs for an IN and OUT._
Also, I've taken the subway out to JFK late at night and had no problems. But some people say someone who loves Cats is scarey enough to frighten away most people.
Now the party's getting good!
List has been updated.

We will be in a Manhattan hotel from June 8 until June 12 and then moving to a hotel at JFK for two nights. (It is a long story, but there is a good reason.)
It is certainly worth making the trek to Manhattan on the 13th for a full day of the tour, but going r/t Manhattan-JFK (to switch hotels), JFK-Manhattan for dinner, and then Manhattan-JFK again is a bit much.
If anyone is driving in from Long Island or Queens and can give us a ride in both directions, we will be happy to join you. Otherwise, I am afraid we will have to pass up on the Soup Do.

Meow Seat13C...
It is still three months to the Soup Do. I'm happy that I get one person to show up! I know it's not the most fun of dos but what I try to do is make sure eveyrone has a chance to participate and be part of what I consider the FUN evening.
There's still room so come on board!@

I just went back and check the thread for last year's SoupDo. As of 3/18/08 (one year ago today) we had 120 posts and a waiting list for the original table. So, my suspicion was right. However, Catman, you're right about us having plenty of time with the Do still being 3 months out.
Here's hoping to get more out.

Perhaps there should be a charge for this event. This way, Catman can queue up interested FlyerTalk members in a fe-line. That would be the purr-fect solution to cat-nip this issue in the bud.
In response to these bad puns, please do not send me private messages and fill my box with litter.

Alamo is running a special -- $10 a day for a car up to a full size, with a pick up in Florida and a return out of state. Includes a tank of gas. Restrictions: Available to US residents and only good from April 1 until July 18. Minimum 5 day rental. Maximum 21 days.
1. Arrange for Traveller to rent the car in Melbourne.
2. Have her pick you up in Marietta.
3. Drive up to New York for the Soup Do and the BRT.
4. Return the car in Atlanta.
5. Traveller can find a cheap flight back to Melbourne.
Make the trip in 6 days, staying at Motel 6s and Days Inn all the way, and the cost will be $85.73 (with taxes) r/t. Sure, you will have to pay for some gas and tolls, but that can't add up to much. (Motel costs not included, but how much can those two brands run?)
And, seeing as you already have the car -- with unlimited mileage -- you can drive the UIG and me out to our hotel in JFK in the afternoon, pick us up for dinner, and drop us off after it.
