Pls. let me add some more information:
Pretty soon, one of the oldest passenger airports in Europe will be shut down and dessapaer forever as a 'land-mark' and will be taken away from timetables but hopefully not from memory.
Berlin Tempelhof (THF), survived World War II, the German dark ages of history, as well as the Cold-War, but now it's going to close by the end of October 2008.
Ths actually does not seem to be the right place to discuss these political matters and issues envolved,
however it still does exist and gets serviced by a couple of airlines. ( see above #1). Reason enough to get there for the last time and celebrate it's r requiem.
There's actually a lot to tell about this Airport, just to name a few basic facts:
- central hub for the Berlin Airlift in 1948-49 during the Berlin blockade
- longest solid building in Europe ( I always thought this would have been the A-Gate area in FRA )...
- first scheduled flight of "Deutsche Luft Hansa A.G." to Zurich in April 1926 ( who can't remember that !)
- quite interesting landing approach and procedure ( you will remember that !)

I said my good-bye to THF in March... but I feel very tempted (never been to a Do but I guess there is always a first).
For anyone planning to attend I strongly recommend flying into THF itself rather than one of the other airports - it's quite an experience.

What google says for the translation
I have now a few ideas for the pre-flight dinner. Excludes I quite expensive restaurants (Sternegestronomie) and fairly simple (McDonalds, etc.).
Not quite cheap but very good food (my Stammkneipe):
Restaurant Corange

Reviews
Prices:
3-course menu: EUR 32
3 course from the map: about EUR 60
Drinks: average prices
Also not cheap, but absolutely fabulous meal in genialem ambience:
KOI Restaurant
http://www.koi-mannheim.de/
Prices:
11-course menu: 49 EUR
There is no map of the man can order the food for all starts at 20.00 clock, if not a walk tastes can be against one of the vegetarian menu exchange.
Drinks: average prices
Entry into the club is for the restaurant guests.
This is the same concept as the Silk Concoon with the club in FRA.
Very tasty Italians:
Ristorante Costa Smeralda
http://www.restaurantcostasmeralda.com/
3-course menu: 22 EUR
3 course from the map: about 25 to 38 EUR
Drinks: average prices
The best sushi restaurant in the area:
Tokyo Sushi Bar
Reviews
Enough Sushi: approximately 20 to 25 EUR
Drinks: low prices
Good German cuisine to normal rates:
Eddes speciality restaurant phylloxera
http://www.schlemmerregion.de/rp_res...id=_0y8119zb7/
3 course from the map: about 25 to 35 EUR
Drinks: average prices
A little expensive for the performance but offered the best view:
Skyline Restaurant Mannheim
http://www.skyline-ma.de/
3-course menu: EUR 24
3 course from the map: about 30 to 40 EUR
Drinks: somewhat high prices
Elevator: $ 4.00
