I haven't been outside since early this morning but Accuweather has a 104F Real Feel temperature posted right now, with a low Real Feel for tonight of 79F. Yuck.
I now see that the guest of honor will only be around until 8:30pm tonight. I'll try to be there by 7:30pm, but it depends on how early I can get out of here.

The Yankees game was only disappointing inasfar as the final outcome. Mussina pitched an impeccable game until the 6th inning when KC managed to push a couple of runs across. Then in the bottom of the 6th, A-Rod tied the game with a two-run homer to left center. Went Moose left the game at the top of the 9th, the game was tied 2 - 2. Mariano came in and after 2 pitches gave up a homer to Guillen. Still, they had their chances in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and two outs, but Melky hit an apologetic infield runner and got thrown out at first.
Anyway, it was a real thrill for me - a lifelong Yankees fan - to finally get to see a game in this stadium before it gets torn down. flycotoseetheyanks was a very hospitable in arranging that, allowing me to store my luggage at his place, and lead me around the NYC subway system like I was a blind man. Good thing, too, because I'm not sure I could have figured out the subway as quickly on my own. Frankly, the heat was not that bad for me. I mean, certainly, it was noticeable, but it seemed like a perfectly good spring Texas day.
After the game, I picked up my luggage and caught a cab to the 39th street ferry, then boarded the Lincoln Harbor ferry to the Sheraton Suites on the Hudson. The ferry ride and storage of luggage went fine, so I headed back to NYC and our rendezvous at Faces and Names, where I found ElmhurstNick, monitor, SeeYa, and newby had gotten a head start on me.
I'm sorry if we missed you, blort, but I think we left Faces and Names at about 8:30 and went across the street to Old Castle Pub & Restaurant for a bite to eat. There, we had a close encounter of the malted beverage kind with La Fin du Mond, which is a Montreal-brewed Belgian-style ale (Unibroue) I had heard of often, but had never had an opportunity to try. After sharing garlic bread and mushroom cap appetizers, I had fish & chips (good), SeeYa had shepherd's pie (very good), and monitor had a roast beef sandwich on garlic bread (disappointing). I felt sorry that monitor was swayed from his original choice of bangers and mash, but we muddled through.
I was sorry to have to leave around 9:45, but I did not want to miss the last Lincoln Harbor ferry, so I headed back to the Sheraton Suites and checked in.
Thanks again to everyone for their very generous hospitality!
Best regards,
William

just a reminder...
Dan and I are going to be having brunch/lunch at Veselka's around 11:30 AM on Friday. See the first post of this thread for a link to the restaurant. Hope you can join us after I get a sneak peak at the the Brooklyn Reality Tour and before I leave for JFK thereafter. I anticipate this will be a leisurely dining event, so if you can't be there exactly at 11:30, join us when you can.
Best regards,
William

Even tho our morning flight from LGA was canceled and all of a sudden I had visions of Veselka, DL quickly rebooked us on a 2PM out of JFK. Just another false alarm because even for that one we will need to leave town no later than noon to account for the vagaries of the Van Wyck Expressway.

LOL. Is that a euphemism for bumper to bumper traffic?
If so, I experienced a bit of it on the way to JFK as well. I think it took a couple of hours from Veselka's.
Regardless, lunch was very good and the company very pleasant, which was a perfect ending to my time in New York. Many thanks to all the Flyertalkers who extended their warmest hospitality to me on this trip.

Do you mean pleasant?
Do you mean it was ok, and pleasant?
Do you mean not annoying when you say pleasant?

The pleasure was ours. Glad you liked your mini-tour of Brooklyn.
