Want to share the cost of a hotel room friday night (Dec. 7)?

For Friday night only, I have a Marriott room in the suburbs and plan to take the metro into town on Saturday (takes about 40 minutes all together). I could even pick you up from the metro or something on Friday (after 5 pm or so) if needed. The rate is great, PM me if interested.

A great post EB! Very useful info on our options. I'll add that RFD (Regional Food and Drink Washington) in addition to the wide beer selection for food has burgers, specialty pizzas - typical pub fare, nothing fancy, but it is well-priced for what you get. Good location just north of Gallery Place, don't know how packed it would be before the hockey game.

Rosa Mexicana did not have any reservations available before 8:30 PM, so I passed for now on it.
I like the choice of a place like Clyde's of Gallery Place (as you do) for a group like this because it has good spirits & good food at a variety of price points (because it is always a case with this kind of even that one's choice of venue is too cheap and/or low brow for some and too expensive and high brow for others). It has online reservatons available at 5 PM or 7:30 PM and later - think we are seeing the impact of the game. I'd need to call to see if they can accomodate our large group at 5 PM.

Oxamyl is conveniently located, has good reviews and at a nice intermediate price point:

Strangely, they don't seem to have a menu on their website.
I think this review is from a visit to another location but the review of the food should apply:

Here's a review of My Brothers Place:
http://search.cityguide.aol.com/wash...ce/v-102175481
However, their website also appears to be down? What gives?

Oh, and finally - if you have any strong objections to any of our possible choices, now is the time to speak up. It's going to be a struggle to be able to make reservations so can't guarantee we'll make everyone happy in our choice of venue, but I'll give it a shot at least.

I'll call a few places starting today, and may just grab any place that says they can accomodate a group of 20.

w/ a note about the beer & wine:

Unique from any other bar on the Capital Hill, My Brother's Place is well known for our 15 taps and our great drink specials. Monday through Saturday you can find a special or two that is perfect for you and your friends, be it "$1.50 Thursdays" or "All-U-Care to Drink" on Saturdays. If it's Happy Hour you seek, look no further! Filled with the ambiance of Capital Hill, Happy Hour at My Brother's Place is best left to be experienced. With bartenders and wait staff on duty all day and night, sitting at the bar is not your only option; why not sit in one of our spacious dining rooms, or our summer outdoor seating? Beers on tap include: Bare Knuckle Stout, Budweiser, Bud Light, Guinness, Bass, Harp, Hefeweizen, Hardcore Cider, Miller Lite, Shiner Bock, Red Hook IPA, Red Hook ESB, Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Yuengling Beers in bottle include: Amstel Light, Bud Light, Budweiser, Corona, Heineken, Kaliber, Miller Lite, O'Doul's, Rolling Rock, Smirnoff Ice, etc. Our wine stock includes: White Zinfandel, Charonnay, Pinot Grigio & Cabernet Sauvignon.

BTW, the list seems okay to me, so whatever you pick of these is fine with me.

It's going to be hard to get a reservation lined up for our size group from what I have encountered so far, but we'll do our best.

The home page of the website for both the Brickskeller ("the Brick" to locals) and RFD -- they're owned by the same people -- is www.lovethebeer.com. If somebody wants to arrange a large party's reservation at either place, call during the day at 202-293-1885 and ask for Diane Alexander.

Sadly, even though I live in Arlington, Va. I don't think that I'll be able to make it that weekend.

Good suggestions ifette! I kinda like the option of a traditional pub like the Brickskeller, and you are right, we can take the metro to such a place rather easily, so it is a viable option. I think their current website is at http://lovethebeer.com/brickskeller.html (brickskeller.com does in fact seem to be down).

I called My Brother's Place to find out their Saturday hours because there were at least two different opening times for Saturday on the web pages I checked out. They open at 4 p.m. and close at 3 a.m. on Saturdays. I also said I was doing some research for the person coordinating this and asked if they would be able to handle a group of around twenty around 5:00. They said if you are interested in going there to call (202) 347-1350 and as of now there should be no problem until at least 7:30, but they do have a large group coming in at 8:00, however, there would still be some room to hang around after that however.

I have no desire to stop chatting at 8

Someone should also call The Brick (Brickskeller, info above)

ifette, sorry, my connection at EWR is at 11am, so it looks like we'll miss each other by a few hours.

(I just hope the EWR Gods preserve that connection...)

Doesn't sound like Brother's Place would actually kick us out any time, but I'm cool with trying for the Brick first, if you think that might work out better. We'll have to take the metro there, but that ain't so bad.

I'll attempt to make our reservations shortly.

They made it sound like there would be an area to ourselves until the other group came in, but I don't know how large an area would be left for how many other people or how much that would interfere with our interacting as a group at that point. If you don't have much luck elsewhere you could talk to them in more detail. Wherever we go, I would hate to have to break things up by 8, unless we continued it at another place at that time.

Left a message for Diane, will wait for her to call me back.

The Brickskeller doesn't open until 6 PM - is that a problem for anyone?

I'm fine with that time frame.

NASM closes at 5:30. I can imagine that a number of us would want to stick around until close, linger around the NWA exhibit and then wander through the rest of the museum. There's some cool stuff there. Then, slowly walk over to L'Enfant, catch Green/Yellow up to Gallery Place, transfer to Red, get off at Dupont, walk over to the Brick and it should be roughly 6-ish anyways...

GrizShel Nov 30, 2007 1:01 pm

Brickskeller it is! :D

More details to follow. I apologize, but I won't be near a computer or have much time to post for the next 3 days folks.
