Count me in.

Airline tix (on hold) using AAdvantage miles to arrive Friday morning, August 29, and depart about 8 days later.

After the Do, I plan to visit Rosario (I attended high school there) and maybe Mendoza, Cordoba and/or Bariloche.

When I originally visited Iguazu Falls (as a teen-ager) we took a rowboat ride above the falls, right up to 15 ft. or so from the edge...do they still do that, or did an unfortunate accident or two deplete the employee pool?

Anybody planning to go to Ushuaia?

It looks like we are going to have a good size Austin contingent down there.

They don't do the rowboats anymore :) A boatload of Germans going over the falls put a stop to that. They do have walkways right to the edge of the Garganta del Diablo on the Argentine side. We just got back from BsAs/Iguazu on Monday. Haven't been to Ushuaia yet; that might be a good option to go checkout for a few days if I can get the extra time off. I'd like to go to the Falklands, but that involves either spending a week, or an hour, using the LA flights.

Staying up there 3 nights? Excellent. See we're on 4028 together.

Updating list with those added recently.

Good to see you in once again Ray.

With 9 months to go and already 18 confirmed in we're going to have some time getting it all in. Great to see such a turn out for this great event.

Yeah, apparently they don't have much FF availability on LAN to IGR - you got all the seats for the day before.

By the way, I'll be +1 this time.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

I'll see if we can con Harvey into this one.

Alex.
Just a question. Is there anything out near your shop that should not be missed for those unfortunate enough to not get into the wine tasting or those not wanting to attend?

Middle_Seat Dec 8, 2007 5:33 pm

Hot diggity! I'm confirmed on AA, arriving EZE at 8:10 AM on Thursday (August 28) and departing on Sept. 8!

I'm not Alex, and he'll know better than I 'fo 'sho, but when I was at his awesome shop this past June, the botanical gardens, park, etc. are literally a couple of blocks over. A few blocks down Av.Libertador (w/in walking distance, IIRC) is an really cool "interior design" museum inside this incredible mansion of a place. Farther down Av. Libertador (walking distance, but pushing the "walking distance" envelope for sure...probably better by bus/collectivo--only eighty "cents") is a couple of really cool art museums. TONS of cafes nearby as well.

If Alex has room or a waiting list, and you're still on the fence on it, SIGN UP!! Alex is an incredible host, his wine shop is beyond cool, you won't regret it. Plan on taking a few liquid souvenier bottles (read: malbec) back home in the nifty "carry on" carriers he's got.

Thinking about it....which hotel?

I'm tentatively coming down--I've booked my award flight (UA C for 80k, arrive Friday AM, leave Monday PM) and a couple of hotels.

What hotel do you all recommend? I've seen the Libertador mentioned here along with (I think) the Park Tower, both Starwood properties. I'm also thinking about the Intercontinental. Any advice?

I'd strongly recommend doing a "Buenos Aires" search in the SPG forum, and read the reviews that both properties have been given. That will give you an idea of what people have liked specifically about each. I've had really good experiences with both the Libertador and the Sheraton Conv. Ctr/BsAs (adjacent to Park Tower). I know both have (and may still be) undergoing various construction/rennovation work, and I'd see where things are at with that.

They're both within walking distance of each other, actually. If price is you're only consideration, I'd go with whichver is cheaper. And, for whatever reason, that seems to vary--that is, one is not usually cheaper or more expensive than the other, just seems to depend on the dates.

aku Dec 8, 2007 11:05 pm

Thanks for the advice, skye1! I read the reviews--it seems that people have different (and strong) opinions about the two Sheratons, and the price is pretty much even, so I'll likely toss a coin.

I was hoping that someone who's stayed at the Sheraton as an SPG Plat, and also stayed at the Intercontinental as an RA, could compare the experiences. It's hard to find comparisons between chains in the forums.
