Im on for dinner. May be two of us. I have a red eye July 3 to ORD then on to PVG. So Ill be heading to the airport about the same time. GoingAway-I have extra day passes to my gym which has a spa and is about 20 minutes from LAX in west LA on Sepulveda. Let me know if youre interested and I can send you any details.

Tempting...
I'll see if I can get an award itinerary that routes me through LAX (hmm...perhaps somewhere in Canada for the 4th!
)
If nothing else this will give me an excuse to meet some of the FT'ers in the LA area! (my parents live in OC and I come down a few times a year)

Well...I have myself booked to arrive in LAX on June 3 at 6:06pm (on UA, from SFO) and departing on AC to YUL at 11:05pm, so if you're headed out on NZ we'll be in the same terminal and all. Unless something comes up in the mean time, it looks like I'll be joining!

So no 4th in the US but glad to have you join - I wonder if they'll let you join me in the Koru Lounge (or whatever it's called). We'll definitely give that a try.

Isn't NZ usually pretty good about respecting the advertised terms of *G? Is there a venue yet? I'd nominate the Encounter Restaurant in the theme building, since I haven't been there in 10+ years, but by the same token I can't comment on the quality or price since obviously I haven't been there with the current chef/menu.

Would the locals like to make some suggestions for venue? Personally, I like ethnic options like Indian, Thai .... but I'm open to any option that has light options on the menu.

There's a very nice Indian place in Marina Del Rey (Shershah) and the Official, Un-Official FT Thai restaurant (Siam). Both have very good food and are close to LAX.

Hmm... at that time I would rule out freeways. FlyinHawaiian's suggestions are all good. Here are a couple more for thought:
- Pancho's - Very good Mexican, sort of cantina/atrium setting. Just a few minutes from LAX. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/pro...estaurant.html
- Mama D's - Local family-run Italian with terrific homemade ravioli. A bit further down the beach. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/140434/
- El Rincon Criollo - nondescript Cuban restaurant that, IMO, is better than the much-vaunted Versailles. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/119366/

El Rinco Criollo (other than being very close to my house
) has very good Cuban food as well as being very reasonably priced
Let me know if this is the choice, and we'll get there early to have a BIG table ready......
