Transportation around Bali...
A few people have inquired recently about transportation around Bali... I had mentioned in a post somewhere in this thread, but rather than try to find it figured it better to just post anew...
You need to arrange for your own car transportation within Bali. The one exception I know of is for those who are staying at the Alila Ubud and coordinated their reservations via CGK -- my understanding is that he has coordinated via the hotel for your pickup from DPS airport to the Alila (but not the rest of the weekend) as this is something they offered to do for us. Beyond that... Picking up taxis at the airport to get you to your hotel is supposed to be fairly easy. However it seems (from what I am told) that the most common or easiest is to hire a driver for use during your stay, and that way you will also not have to be concerned with calling for a taxi to pick you up from restaurants/clubs/spas/shopping/etc as the driver will be at your call, and you will have a flat daily rate rather than metered or negotiated (each trip) rates. If you do a search under the Asia forum (using "Bali" and "driver" you will find several threads with FT recommendations for drivers, and historical daily rate information). There have been reports there where the drivers frequently used by FTers have been booked but have been able to make recommendations for other drivers. Also, those who are staying at the same property (or neighboring properties) may wish to share transportation for convenience as some posts in this thread have reflected. Your hotels may also be willing to provide recommendations for drivers, or coordinate that for you. There are also other repeat-Bali-visitors going to BaliDo who can answer these questions about arranging for the drivers, etc much better than I can and I'm certain are more than happy to answer if anyone has questions. |
Bump...

The Asia forum and Trip Reviews on FT can provide some great ideas, as can other boards like baliforum.com. FWIW, I'm certain that several of us will probably make a trip down to the temple at Uluwatu again on Sunday (late morning/early afternoon?) so if that is of interest to you, please let me know (PM or post to thread). For a description, I'd recommend googling "Uluwatu temple" as I just don't think any description I could come up with would do it justice. |
Thanks cawhite for the reminders.
I have taken the liberty to copy your posts above to post #2, hope you don't mind. ;) |

SQ142 I think is brunch flight, and SQ147 is a dinner one. Both same aircraft. As a QPP, if you upgrade on SQ142, which means that you will have SKL F access at SIN. Useful if like me staying overnight at hotel SKL F. Lounge-wise in Bali, last year we did not have time to go to the lounge. The one with the outdoor looking out the ocean will be too dark by 7pm. There you go. |
Very clear Cawhite! ^ Thanks for the update :)

Wireless was to bring him to New York. (In a related incident, it's rumored that Wireless will be cancelling his trip to NY if Freddie Jr. can't be found). :p |
Some Mozaic Dinner Info
StarG and I are still working out a few details on the Mozaic dinner and the deposit. We'll have the deposit information sorted in the next few days and have PMs to those we know are planning to attend the Mozaic dinner by mid-week with details.
Mozaic offers two (2) fixed price menus to choose from. There is a 6-course tasting menu for Rp.395.000 and a 3-course "a la carte" menu for Rp350.000 per person. In addition, a 6-course tasting menu vegetarian is Rp.295.000 and 3-course set menu vegetarian is offered at Rp250.000 per person. All guests sitting at the same table must order the same menu option. You are not all required to order the same menu items, but rather everyone at the table must be in agreement on 6 courses vs 3 courses. Because of the size of our group, this past week Moziac has asked us to provide them in advance an indication of how many people will be choosing the 6 course vs the 3 course option, so please begin thinking about which you would prefer. StarG has posted a menu link in post 2. So please begin thinking about which you would prefer. Wine pairings are available for both menu options as well, for an additional charge. Guests may also bring their own wines or champagne. In that case a corkage fee of Rp.75.000 will apply for each bottle. All prices are subject to (and do not reflect) a 21% government tax and service charge. I'm really excited about this dinner! We dined at Mozaic last year and it was fantastic and most (if not all?) of the return attendees who were at that dinner considered it a "must do again." |
