I have not wanted to mention this before, but due to the latest circumstances in Bali, I might as well tell you.
During the Bali-do 2006, I have reserved the best Ocean Suite at the Westin, which is 1516. It has the private plunge pool and kitchenette.
If the rest of you stay elsewhere, I do want to invite you all to some sort of gathering at some point during the DO. So please let me know when would be a good time for all of you to come so that I can make arrangements with catering and also a head count.
Many thanks, and I hope to see you all at the Bali-Do 2006!

Diana, thanks for the update! I wondered if that was you who had booked the suite with the plunge pool already
I'd definitely like to see the suite, as I'm sure others would...and also appreciate your offer of hospitality!
As I told Alex, it will be much closer to the end of the year or possibly January before I think we're ready for everyone to make a decision on Hotel Central (I'm told one of the properties we're considering won't be updating rates until then). It is interesting though to see how the Westin's web rates jumped considerably for that weekend about 2 weeks ago...hopefully it's just that they were gearing up for the "winter season" and not an indication that they were considering raising rates that much.

YIKES!!!
I just took a look at the Westin's rate increase for RBC rooms. I am glad I locked in my rate before the increase. That's a pretty big increase...I was paying $150 for the RBC package. Anyone know if the Sheraton has increased their rates?

Can somebody confirm it these will end up being the party flights:

SQ147 DPS-SIN 28 May.
If not, let me know so I'll change them.

I just returned from Bali on Nov. 1.
It's very sad. So empty and desparate. The Westin had less than 30% occupancy. It seemed like less to me.
The good news is that there was word that one of the three heads of the Bali bombers has been identified. Most of the locals feel that all of the bombers are Malaysian.
I doubt if I will be going back anytime soon. Not only is the rainy season starting...fly season is starting too. Ugh, nothing worse than being attacked by flys.

Hey guys!
Sorry for disappearing for such a long time. Been really swamped with work. Jubilee777 can attest to that.
Anyway, if all goes well, I should be joining you guys for this do. Like many others, I made up my mind to go after the most recent bombings. I think the people there deserve our support.
Anyway, I am currently booked in the Intercontinental Bali as I'm a RA and have been guaranteed a suite upgrade, so maybe I could host one of the day programmes. Anyone else joining me? I have some rather decent corporate rates.
I will be trying to get on the party flight but SQ's website seems to have some problems now.
See you guys soon!
Cheers,
Gaz

What about SQ142 outbound? is that also a party flight?

I'll be overnighting in hotel SKL 25th May arriving SQ119, and waiting for one or two balibuds arriving that evening on SQ11. Anybody up for a F side slumberette party?

thought on hotel options?
Hi Bali DO'ers:
We're betwixt and between Beijing and Bali for Memorial Day 2006. Totally different experiences, I know. Mr. Megatop does not want to stay at the RC again if we do Bali. The FS rates are a little steep, at least the ones they're publishing on the web, and Aman hotels are out of our price range, for now. What advice can you give us for the following options or any others. We're considering splitting time (total of 6 nights) between the beach and central Bali.
The Chedi Club in Ubud, perhaps combined with The Legian
VSOE's Jimbaran Puri Bali and Ubud Hanging Gardens.
The VSOE hotels have what appear to be great deals. The Chedi and Legian are at a price point between the VSOE and FS, and if Mr. Megatop gets an ASEAN rate, they'd be really great.
Unfortunately, we'd be arriving on May 28th, just when most of the crowd is leaving. We'd stay the whole week through June 3rd, and I'd catch SQ 20 home from SIN on the afternoon of the 3rd. I'll be going over on SQ 19 on May 24th, in case anyone else winds up on that flight. (We'll be in BKK for May 26-28.)
