Why don't we do 6:30 pm at Mi Cocina at the Galleria - that gives plenty of traffic time for those who are driving - and there are at least things to do if one gets there early. I've heard from one other person that they might be a maybe (I'll just put them as my +1 for now) so we are looking like five folks.
(I'm picking Mi Cocina since it looks like we are going into the larger table grouping w/ 5 or more and I think the other two places might be more difficult to get an immediate table at that hour.) |

Sounds great to me. I was hoping for mexican! |
Sorry I’ve been awol lately but I’ve been training for my 7th MS-150 (2-day, 150 mile) bike ride. It’s this weekend so hopefully afterwards I’ll have some free time to plan/attend with you all.
Dang y'all are meeting right down the road from my office but Thursday will be our last evening to get miles in so unless it rains, I’ll have to take a rain check. :) I’d still like to host a happy hour at BJs soon so I’ll try to co-ordinate when several of you all are available. Hope to see you all soon! |
Bumping... see you guys tonight at 6:30, Mi Cocina Galleria. We'll meet in the bar area - and I'll get there to get us on the list under Jennifer.

See you all there! |
Good to see everyone last night! Had a good time, thanks!

Sorry I missed it -- my contractors didn't leave the kitchen until 9:30pm last night.

Very nice time with good company and good eats as well - good call on the restaurant techgirl. See you all next time I come thru TX. |
Crawfish Boil -- Anyone !!
I will be in DFW on May 15th -- flying thru - and will arrange my ticket to give me approx 4-5 hrs to kill.
I will be at Nate's Seafood gulping down some mudbugs -- if anyone cares to join, it will be a pleasure !! Timing -- I land at 1240pm....will rent a car and head straight there. So calc 130pm I will be at the restaurant. For all you locals -- cheaper to rent the car or hire a taxi both ways??? Rental is approx 85.99/day without the taxes.... |
DFW locals -- pls help with the taxi/rental question
|
You can probably expect fees&taxes to add 40%+ to the price of the rental.
The short answer between car & taxi is... I don't know. No clue how much taxi fares are around here. Google maps sez it is 18.5 miles from DFW-Nate's. You will also need to get a # for a cab company so you can call them to come get you when you are done w/ lunch. (Maybe the restaurant will do that.) Priceline the car? Or Orbitz claims the off-brand companies have cars from $20 a day. |
I'm not sure on the rental car either. Given your return time and some of the construction that has been on and off on that route, its possible to hit metered charges that exceed what the mileage charge would normally be.
Pappadeaux has mudbugs this time of year too... and there are two locations that are much closer than Nates where taxi fares might be more predictable. Unfortunately I won't be able to make this - too bad since I'm always up for a few pounds of 'bugs! |
I'm also out of town midday Thursday.
A cab to Nate's will run about $40 each way, plus tip. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't beat that handily for a car rental via Priceline, even after adding $7 that the gas will run. As far as Nate's goes, I like the place, and I'm a huge fan of their chicken & sausage gumbo - it's the best I've had this side of the LA/TX state line. But I don't like their crawfish. Like many places here in town, they boil them in plain or barely seasoned water, then sprinkle on the spices after cooking. This seasons the shells, so the meat has less flavor, but the lips burn. And Nate's over-spices them, even if you get the bugs spiced regular and not "turbo". Nate's does get points in my book for serving Abita Amber. Pappadeaux is not a bad alternative. Their other food is also very good, and portions are huge. |
