See, one of the best things about VCE is that it is a CFZ (cilantro free zone)

What are you talking about?

As I recall, you have pretty good yams and Cholula is certainly a marshmallow.

As stated: VCE is a CFZ. However, you will find lots of wonderful fresh herbs. Most dishes are heavily laced with Italian (of course) parsley. It is far more ubiquitious than basil. Little garlic to be found. Flavors are far more subtle than in Rome. The strongest flavors I have found are the flavors of the fresh olives, and of course, in season, the white truffles.

Isn't enough that you already found two wonderful Marcos for yourself in Venezia? How come you are now branching out and collecting Herbs?

I realize that you expect Cholula to take comfort in that fact, but keep in mind that there are still plenty of crosses in the city and stakes which can be pounded through his heart.

In that case, let me have the honor of introducing you to Italian ice cream.

Changed my mind: strongest flavor in VCE is Grappa

Speaking of Grappa, I was at a company dinner this week at a Morton's Steakhouse in Denver.
After dinner, the owner of the company ordered bottles of Grappa and Limoncello di Capri to be poured for everyone.
I got a glass of Grappa which, as always, tasted like a fermented pair of Dovster's socks.
When it came time to pour the Limoncello di Capri, they ran out waaaay before they got to me. :(
Any chance I can find this delicacy in VCE??

You'll probably have better luck in Capri

To the best of my knowledge, elephants eat neither Alfalfa nor Buckwheat.

Even if the elephant is trained for riding, where is he going to find a horse big enough to carry him?

Is a pipe corral sufficent containment? I can't even imagine why you would want to corral your pipes, much less your elephants.

As far as shipping is concerned, you will have to carry it in your hand luggage and place it underneath the seat in front of you.

For any further information about elephants in Italy, please address your question to Obscure2k. She, after all, is the one who has Hannibal living in her house.

La Fenice

The October 2004 issue of Conde Nast Traveler has the story of how La Fenice has been rebuilt, along with a picture of its jewel box interior. "It was an eight-year nightmare: Fire, destruction, delays. But next month the curtain rises again at La Fenice opera." Thanks to Monitor, we know that "La Fenice's inaugural opera season starts on November 12 with an eight-day run of La Traviata, which Verdi premiered in 1853. Tickets: $60-$1450."

And let us devoutly hope that Marco can get us enough tickets for all of us to get to a performance.

Thanks, Monitor for reminding us all about the opera. Marco indicated that he was unable to confirm seats until October 10. That gives us one week. A message to all interested in attending the opera, please e-mail me at Obscure2k@ mac.com. Let me know how many tix you want and I will ask Marco about availability in all price ranges and how to secure the tix (either by cc confirmations or something else).
Looking forward to seeing you all in about 6 weeks or so (but who's counting)?

If Marco can only get X tickets and there are not enough to go around, we'll gladly bow out of this. We wouldn't mind seeing our first opera but it's certainly not a priority and I know how much some of the rest of you want to attend.
Let's see what Marco comes up with, take another poll on who wants to go and distribute the tickets according to desire.

Cholula, don't worry. I remember you posting that you want the best seats and some of the $1400 chairs are usually available, especially for matinee performances. I doubt that many other FTers would be anxious to take them away from you.

Do note, however, that while opera houses generally don't have dress requirements, those in the really expensive seats are expected to dress formally. In the evening, top hat, white tie and tails are de rigeur. I can't tell you about matinees, but I would imagine that morning coats would be correct.

If you have any problem in locating either of these items in your neighborhood I am certain that a classy woman like 02K can advise you on where to buy them.

I don't know, however, if she will be able to assist you in locating a clip-on formal bowtie.
