Bump - do we have dates yet? Flight availability from here is going fast ...

mjm Apr 5, 2005 6:33 pm

One and all,

Apologies for not attending to this sooner. I know that bookings must be made well in advance so lets pick a date (speaking to self primarily :) )

The MLK weekend in January 2006 seems the most feasible for those traveling from the US for many reasons. Being at work as per usual eiither side of the long trip to SIN is one main one though. As the bulk of the attendees at the past few of these events have been from the US I will suggest we go ahead with the same pattern and select Januray 14-15 as the main two days. Some may elect to come in and play on Friday or stay through Monday for same, but at least this way we can assure minimal negative impact to work schedules.

In Japan where I work that weekend is a bit of a stretch as the preceding Monday is a holiday and my boss may take a dim view of my taking two 3-day weekends in a row after having just had New Year's holidays. I will try and fake a bad cold or something if he protests too loudly though. ;)

For those traveling from Australia and New Zealand, other Asian countries, or the Eurpean continent, I apologize in advance if this seems a bit lopsided in logic, but in order to carve something out around which people can begin planning I think this is our best choice.

So folks, have at the reservations agents and engines and best of luck in confirming upgrades and getting great prices sans stayover requirements.

Comments, criticism, suggestions, and contributions towards a hair transplant are all welcome. :)

Talk to you soon,

Mike

already?

Yes. Its the busiest travel week of the year here - lots of post christmas travel (both those staying home for christmas and those returning from christmas trip), and school holidays end a week or so later so families heading home to prepare.

I realize I've "flaked" the last two years, but now that I'm in control of my schedule, THIS will be the year I attend.

For those of us in the midwest, it's a GREAT chance to get out the long-since-packed t-shirts & shorts (or pants...recalling the "dress code" posts of last year), and get outt'a the ice & snow for GREAT food & sunshine!!!

I could probably make Jan 14-15 work. I had a great time in 2004 and am still sorry I couldn't make it in 2005. Thanks Mike for organizing this. I agree with MAN Flyer that this should have its own thread.

Agree with the need for a new thread for 2006 - mjm, how about it?

There is no question mjm that this weekend is helpful for us travelling from the USA. :) I will follow this and subsequent threads with interest. I doubt however that I will be able to repeat my flight SFO-SIN on UA last January for $728. It currently prices at $1034!

Oh it will come down :D

My ORD-PVG flight for April 2005 was pricing out at $1200 at United.com even though Travelocity fare listing was showing $800 W fare. Sure enough, United released the W fares in February and I was able to use a 15% off coupon, plus double miles, plus Tues/Wed transpac double miles :D

Amazing! @ $0.013 per mile! ^

7,645 miles x 2 (roundtrip) x 4 (base + 1K bonus + Double miles + Tue/Wed Transpac Double) =61,160 ^

Nice going!! :)
