I just realized there was this tribute to Gene. I am Gene's traveling partner for over 20 years, including the trip to Iceland due to the mistake fare mentioned above. He passed away in late March, 2022. We had a memorial in his beloved Great Canyon on his birthday in May 2022. So if you have a chance to visit Grand Canyon, say hi to him. Through him, I learned so much about the mileage gametoo. His legendary contribution to this site was probably the fight with United Airlines for 5X bonus miles in 2004 ( UA agrees to honor original terms of Early Bird Bonus ).

I'm very sorry to hear this. When I was in college at Arizona State Gene used to stay at the Sheraton Tempe. He'd invite me over for drinks at the executive lounge. As an undergrad the chance to score a couple of Budweisers and eat something other than hot dogs and mac and cheese was a big deal for me. I appreciate him giving me those nice moments.
