UA agrees to honor original terms of Early Bird Bonus

Updated 15:14 Mar 1 2004 US MST
To register for the Early Bird Exception Registration go to http://www.united.com/offer/mpd714 Do not contact Customer Relations like it is mentioned in many places in this thread.

GREAT NEWS
I know there are several threads on this but I think this deserves a new one.

I sent an email to Martin White (Sr VP Marketing) on the evening of Wed. Feb 18 and got a call from Mileage Plus a few minutes ago stating the following:
1. Apology for any missunderstanding on the promo terms
2. At the end of the promo, additional miles will be posted to my account such that the total is 5X of flight miles.
3. Any other people that contact Customer Relations will be given the additional miles. Contact them after Feb 27 or end of promo. Miles will be credited at the end of the promo.

What I was hoping to hear is that everyone would get the extra bonus without having to contact Customer Relations, but I guess this will have to do.

I will be updating my web site in a few minutes but I wanted to get this news out quickly.

BTW, Mr. White uses a BlackBerry PDA to read his email and was very prompt to my initial inquiry stating:
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">It is. I look forward to your letter.

Martin

Edited to say contact after Feb 27. It takes a while for the news to get to all the staff.

Wow, this is truly great news! I had placed 4 trips (LAX-IAD-FRA twice, LAX-LHR twice) to take advantage of this offer!

Fantastic news, Gene. You've done a masterful job of spearheading this. My letter is already in the mail to Mr. White. You know, I hadn't expected such a quick resolution - so I was already planning alternative travel to UA in March. Now, I'll probably be back to studying the UA fare schedule and wedging in one more trip. Well done, Gene, and well done, UA, to give Gene a quick response.

Typical, the staff is the last to know. Call Mileage Customaer Relations and they have no idea of the new policy. Have to call them again in a couple of days.

Kudos to gfowler!

Does anyone know what is the best way to follow up with Customer Relations on this? An email to the MP Customer Service? A mailed letter to Customer Relations in Illinois? A call to Customer Relations in Illinois?

Thanks Gene and everyone else who persisted in this matter. And thanks to UA for sticking by your customers and doing what's right. My MP account will be 29,091 miles richer!

Hear Hear! My thanks to all involved.

I just received a most promising personal email from the 1k address advising me of exactly what Gene reports.

EDITED TO ADD. It also hinted at the fact that UA may well involve me ("us") in the design of future promos. Very interesting!

Now let's see what AA does in the matching department here!

I called my contact at UA who suggested the following:

1. Wait til Feb 27 to make the contact so that there will be time for the policy to be well known to the staff.

2. Contact Customer Relations via the email link on web page http://www.united.com/page/article/0,1360,50416,00.html

Email will give you a record of the reply and is easy for UA to handle.

If you are not able to get a satisfactory answer afer a reasonable time, contact me at [email protected] . I have a contact person in UA that I am supposed to call if there are any problems.

I might be a little slow in replying because I will be in SIN Feb 26-Mar 3, TPE Mar 9-16, ORD Mar 20, LHR Mar 21 and CDG Mar 22-23 to get more 5X miles. From Mar 25-Apr 9 I will be totally unreachable - on a rafting trip in the Grand Canyon.

I called Customer Relations earlier this morning and spoke with David Perez. After being put on hold for half and hour. Mr. Perez advised me that UA would honor its promotion. I would not need to take any further action and my record would be noted accordingly.
