The boards in the current incarnation were created in Spring 1998. There are still a few "old timers" from 1998 still posting today. Some first postings I found:
Matt Wald (aka Kokonutz) 5/13/98
Catman 5/29/98
MileageAddict 6/15/98
Rudi 6/29/98

I admit it. I had never even heard of Flyer Talk until July.
I was sitting in my BAG's (Beautiful American Girlfriend) home in Savannah getting increasingly PO'ed at some problems I was having with Delta.
(My mood was not at all enhanced by some of the e-mails I was getting from my UIG (Used Italian Girlfriend) about my visit to the BAG, but that is a different story.)
I did a Google search on Delta and came up with SaveSkyMiles. This, in turn, linked to Flyer Talk. My first post was a long diatribe about Delta's stupidity in overseas marketing.
Much has happened since then. My BAG deserted the field, to the great delight of the UIG. Delta has corrected some (but not all) of the policies I wrote about. I have made good friends on the Delta Board. I had my first FT meet (in Tel Aviv last week) and am involved in planning a very large one in FLL this May.
And, of course, I have been awarded the OBE.

I lurked on the board from day 1, but my first post was in November, 1999.
As far as I know, in one of my initial posts, I was the first one to mention the name "Skyteam" as a possible name for the alliance in this thread. I think my very first post might have been this one.

I registered as soon as I saw the site. Used to look on the www.airliners.net forums (didn't register) and someone posted an excellent CX F report and a reply mentioned that it was more suitable for the 'mature tone' of Flyertalk. I came across it and registered straight away.
However my first post was a complete clanger!
Asking about upgrades on the BA forum....oops!

I'm not sure how to find my first post? I check the archives for the United forum and found this http://www.flyertalk.com/pasttalk/ft...ML/000345.html
Where are the General Travel forum archives?

I could be wrong, but even in archive, I don't think my first post exists any longer. I've tried to search on topics that I created, only to not find them. So I really don't know what my first post was. The board has upgraded its software since then too.
But if I may say so, I've seen a lot of people come and go. There are some posters who I really miss, but there are just as many whom I've come to trade banters with over the years. My main hangout has been the Delta forum. For a long time is was also the Alaska Forum (I remember when Missdarlin' joined!!!).
I've met only a few FT'ers. But I'm honored that I was able to make a comment in Obscure2K's first post referenced above.
Anyway, I can't believe how much time or effort I've committed to trying to help others learn the ropes of ff flying and learn about it for me at the same time. It has been a lot of fun.

My first post on FlyerTalk doesn't exist any longer. Not even in Archives.
That's because FlyerTalk V1.o was a short lived experiment back in 1995(?) that unfortunately quickly degraded to usenet levels of bile that made a bad day in OMNI look like a ladies' garden party by comparison!
So Randy quickly put it out of it's misery and resurrected it again a few years later in May of 1998 with the FlyerTalk we all know and love today. I guess you could call it "The Passion Of The FlyerTalk."
I have to say that with the bad taste in my mouth from the first FlyerTalk experiment, that I just lurked around during this FlyerTalk's first couple of months, making my debut post (I think) on this FlyerTalk on July 25, 1998 10:54am in this post:
http://www.flyertalk.com/pasttalk/ft...ML/000051.html
And judging from that post, I'm just as boring as ever!
But you'll be happy to know that I still often answer that exact same question that Rudi asked in that thread, several times a year. Some things never change. The answer has changed, however.
At least that's the earliest post of mine that I could find without really digging thread by thread. The FlyerTalk search engine does not necessarily deliver results in a strict date/time order of your own post within a thread.

The earliest I could find of mine, was May 12, 1998, in the American forum of course, and was:
http://www.flyertalk.com/pasttalk/ft...ML/000003.html
About that short lived AA-US hookup...
Like others said, there might be some earlier ones, but they were the "contest" Randy was running to introduce the new and improved UBB FlyerTalk.

How on earth did you find wharvey's first post Canarsie?
There are now over 20,000 of mine to trawl back over, so be interested how you pinpointed William's as he too has 1000s?
