new subscriber ...
Just signed up today, 12/17/08.
Have traveled to many countries ... although as time goes by, can't remember details on trips from many years ago!
As a matter of
fact, trips from earlier this year are starting to fade.
Anyway, thought I'd sign up in case I might be a resource to others .... and,
obviously, looking for ideas and suggestions for our future trips.
Take care, Geoff Rather, Tulsa, OK

Another Lurker Revealed
Hello all! For over a year now I've used this as my encyclopedia for all travel related advice. When in doubt, I knew some FTer must have wondered the same thing - sure enough, I've always found what I'm looking for. Since I've mastered the art of "taking" from this forum, I decided (pre-new years resolution I might add!) to finally start "giving" back. I hope I live up to your example.

Not sure if I have the right site or post but I am new to Flyer Talk and this is the best that I could find to tell about myself. My name is Phil, I live in Phoenix and have been an aviation buff for years and once upon a time I was actually a Student Pilot. I still have by log book and look at it once in a while. Spent too many years in the Army being where there wered no flying clubs.

Hi, I'm not new to travel, and about 120K away from Million Miles on United - wonder if I'll get there while they are still United? I am not proud to say I have status on various airlines, hotels and car rental places. I guess I'm here checking out any helpful hints. I do about 200 segments a year traveling in a sales engineer capacity working in the US primarily, with some outside US business travel working with the banking industry - very fun right now
Glad to meet you all in advance!

Me
Wanted to add my comments as I joined the board back in November. I am a global frequent flyer now based out of Atlanta. I fly about 350,000 miles per year, mostly on Skyteam. I am a lifetime platinum elite member with Flying Blue and "regular" platinum elite with Delta's Skymiles.
I have been globe-trotting since 1991, and my very first business trip ever was when British Aiways took me from Amsterdam to London. My very first flight ever was in '79 or '80 with CSA on (probably) a TU134A from Amsterdam to Prague in what was then still communist Czechoslowakia. I am truly grateful to have peeked behind the iron curtain a few years before Gorbachev raised it for good.
I remember that pre-flight, once the doors were closed, the plane was "fumigated" with a mist from the overhead vents. Being an impressionable high-schooler on a field trip with his final year class mates we obviously theorized about what communist plot might lurk behind the chemicals...
The flight itself was uneventful, although the little turbulence on approach scared me somewhat, as I had obviously never been on a plane before.
I also vividly remember the arrivals hall in Prague. It was (back then) a grey-ish concrete block, that inside resembled more of a bus terminal then an airport. We had a lot of anticipation for the security checks coming in, expecting our Levi's and other western goods to be conviscated by the communist customs officers. But as we were traveling as a group, we were met by the infamous Intourist officials and ushered through in no time.
I used Prague International Airport and CSA earlier this year on a trip from Moscow to Manchester, UK. The airline, nor the terminal had absolutely no resemblance to what I had experienced so many years ago. Which makes my memory all the more valuable to me.
I hope to contribute more in the future.

Introduction
Hello! I am new here and am not sure where to post. I formerly traveled a ton domestically and internationally and am just now getting back into the swing of things - expecting a ton ton of travel in the next couple of years - just getting back into it after a back injury. All the new routes, rules, connections etc have me confused. I think all my AA gold/platinum stuff has lapsed and I'm just now getting into WorldPerks, United, etc etc because of some recent domestic business travel.
Specifically, I want to ask about transatlantic flights from the U.S. to Europe ---- but in general terms (i.e. not price, not a particular airline, not a particular seat-guru config). I'm trying to build the first of several upcoming itineraries and need general advice. My recent jaunts through Denver, EWR, etc kind of scared me - delays, cancellations, switched aircraft, changed seats - this is not the same as 1986!
I have to plan a complicated itinerary through London and am confused.
For example, do some airlines generally have worse legroom (not seat guru) overall (I noticed a flight from NYC to Long Beach on AA was insane! Sardines!) - are the flights to Europe on AA like that now?? etc etc. I wanted to connect through London out of NY but all the flights get to Heathrow to late to connect to Milano!
Is there a good area for me to post these types of questions?
Thank you!!!!

Hello RegistramoGirl and welcome. You can start in Travebuzz or milebuzz to ask general questions about which alliance works best for you. If you like to connect in London, I personally would recommend using Oneworld and British Airways which has flat bed/seats in business class and an excellent new terminal at Heathrow. But there are pros and cons for the Star Alliance and Oneworld too. Also I'm sure you can find a BA flight that will land in time for a Milano connection. I have done that often from LAX.

New To The Fold
Hello,
I am a leisure traveler from NYC, have traveled to many corners of the globe in the past 20 years. Flying is a very enjoyable experience when things go according to plan. Then as a lot of you already know when things don't go by the numbers a journey by flight can be things our worst nightmares are made of.
I have learned many things from Flyertalk forums lurking, ie: Expert Flyer, FareCompare, ITA, Flight Memory, ect.
Thank you for having a sight dedicated to travel feedback and ff programs.
I look forward to contributing relevant travel experiences past, present and future.

Hello all
I am also new here, and have enjoyed lurking the last few weeks. I live in Denver, CO, and travel somewhat frequently as a technical service representative for a food and beverage packaging manufacturer... Mostly short trips, out-and-back in a day or two to the West coast.
FlyerTalk looks like a great resource, I look forward to popping in here!
