Thanks guys! Now for the rest of you, there are still lots of other flyertalkers we don't know much about!

I've been lurking around this board for well over one-and-a-half years, but recently started posting last summer.
I'm a 27 year old Systems Engineer for one of the big data network hardware manufacturers. I was born in Melbourne, Australia, and raised in Long Beach, CA, and now call Irvine, CA home. My UserName reflects upon my favorite airport: SNA (John Wayne Orange County Airport), which is 10 mintues from my front door. I have always loved flying, airplanes, airports, and traveling, and have acquired a recent mileage addiction in the past four years I have been an Elite FF. I pretty much travel exclusively with American, and their oneworld partners. I'm Executive Platinum with AA, Gold with Hilton, and I'm going to work on Starwood Platinum this year. In addition to travel, I like Scuba Diving, Wine Collecting, Beer, Food, and Electronic Music. |
Having no food in the refrigerator, and trying to avoid going in to my office on Saturday Night to use the printer, I decided finally to get autobiographical on "Who we all are".
I'm 48, still single, and a proud native of New York City. Except that some years I spent twice the amount of time elswhere as here. I work (nominally) for a well-known media company that everyone has heard of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif, and spent the years from 1975-1998 travelling to most of the news and sporting events that had any significance http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif. Almost all of this business travel was domestic, but about 20 years ago I got into the vacation travel habit, and have made at least 30 trips to the U.K. and a dozen to Caribbean islands during that period. Went to Hawaii on business in 1978, didn't go back until stopovers on the way to & from Tonga (long story) in 1991. I'm an original member of AAdvantage, joined Mileage Plus a few months later, & had reached Premier before they required requalification every year and then lost it. (But more recently have qualified for Premier or PremEx about 6 years running). These days, I'm on leave of absence from my erstwhile employer while I serve as Secretary-Treasurer of my local Union and Regional Vice-President of the parent organization (subject to occasional re-elections http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif). My business mileage is down to about 9 or 10 trips per year to meetings, conferences, conventions, etc., but I try to keep the numbers (and elite level) up with vacation and other personal trips, as time permits. Elite status is my only chance for upgrades, since we don't believe in spending the members' money on extravagances. [This message has been edited by RichG (edited 02-26-2000).] |
I don’t think anyone recognizes me, but after over 200 posts I decided to introduce myself. I don’t want to end up on "Who we all are 74" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif. Come’ on, I’ve been on this board since December ’98.
Ok, here it goes. I’ll hit 21 in May this year. I was born in Poland where I was raised, and at the age of 18 came to U.S where almost ¾ of my family lives in. At first I went to Cleveland, OH where I was supposed to be living with my aunt, but then I moved to Little Rock, AR and have been living here since then. My plan was to come to the U.S for Christmas and New Years Eve and then go back to Poland and finish my tour ( I’m a vocalist and play on 6 different instruments ), but my family did everything they could to change my mind. So, I decided to stay few more months, go to school, learn english ( I had no idea about english at all ) and go back home. Well, things change, people change, and finally my plan of going back home got changed too. I finished IELP ( Intensive English Language Program ) at the University of Arkansas and started to taking university classes. Last summer, I moved to Royal Palm Beach, FL and was supposed to go to Florida International University, but I moved back within 2 weeks! The reason I moved back was the girl I met in Chicago whom I visit at least every third week. It was too far, no way to go there by a car, fares more expensive, and also many other personal reasons. We’ve been together for over a year now and plan to move out to Florida in fall … this time TOGETHER http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. Currently, I’m majoring in International Business at the University of Arkansas. I have one cat and right now I also have my mother who’s been visiting my for over a YEAR !! She promised that she’ll go back to Poland soon, but ... Ohh http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Anyway, I started to travel frequently in April last year. I made Silver Medallion on Delta Air Lines within 5 months ( all laisure travel ) and use TW from time to time, as they have a lot of low fares from/to LIT. I’m not sure what else to say, but the one thing I’m sure of ( besides feelings to my fiance http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif, I’m sorry for that part, but she may read that ) is that I LOVE to travel ! I'm a miles, points and travel addict, and I'm really happy to know that I'm not the only ONE http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif I guess that’s pretty much what I have to say about myself. I would write more, but I don’t wanna bored you to death http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif By the way, RichG, my mom read your post and pretty much one of the things she noticed was that you are single http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ( she is too ). Thanks guys, this board is my second home and I’m really glad that I have that many friends. More great bios from everyone!
Damian: YOU could never bore us. IN fact personal stories are more interesting than some of the dribble that sometimes comes out on this board. And it's facinating that you are from Poland. My maternal grandparents are from Gdansk Poland and on my list of things to do is to go over to Poland and see if I have any relatives over there. Plus, you are a cat lover! PAWS UP! |
Catman,
There is about 30 people originaly from Poland living in Little Rock, and 2 of my friends are from Gdansk! One of them is going to Gdansk this summer. If you need more information about Gdansk and Poland, feel free to ask me. I really wanted to go to NYC for the FT get together, but I'm going to SEA with my mom on the 16th of March, so I won't be able to make it this time http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif |
Wow, I have really enjoyed these posts!
Damian, I also have a grandmother of Polish ancestry, but unfortunately I do not know where...switched back and forth between Russia and Poland over time, I am told. RichG: great to hear about you, I've read your posts since you warmly welcomed me to FT some months ago and I enjoy learning about your background. Seems that Islandcub is a fellow union person. |
I am indeed, Richard. It gets weird next month, though. Occasionally my employer loans me to the union to work for them. However, next month, my local office is loaning me to the union, who is in turn loaning me back to my employer at the HQ level because of expertise I have in Human Resources Management.
It's a weird feeling, but then again, I'm making it worth my time because I get to fly full fare (because the employer's paying) but I get to keep my frequent flyer miles (because we're using my union's travel agency). I wonder if we can get frequent flyer miles as a benefit in our next contract? :-) |
Hi,
I recently found this forum because of the LatinPass 1M promotion. There has been a lot of useful info here, and I hope to go on my first mileage run in May. Anyway, I'm 35, live in London, UK, but I am Dutch. I used to fly a lot (more than 100k miles per year), but I never got any miles for it, as I generally travelled on industry discounted fares. I recently changed jobs, and now work for an Internet company, where I do get miles, but fly much less. I am still KL Royal Wing, but will probably lose that next year - especially since I've started to take the ferry to Holland (but hey, I did make the gold level on their frequent sailor http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif program). |
Bringing this forward again...I've seen MANY new names here in the past few weeks.
Tell us about yourselves, please. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif And you can read other folks info at: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/000052.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum95/HTML/000196.html |
A little quiet here @ work so I thought I post a quick blurb. Heavy phones @ work and some traveling is involved. I work for a securities firm based in Jersey City, NJ (FYI Catman, that would be Grove Street)for which I am attached to a headset for most of the day. I travel to see accounts in the U.S. maybe 6x a year. Unfortunately it's hard to accumulate miles since none of the traveling is to the same place twice. I've tried to keep as much as I can on Continental but the in-house travel agent handles this travel and calls the shots as to the airlines used.
I also have what is probably one of the longest distance relationships around. He's a transplanted Long Islander who's been living in Denmark for the last 20 some-odd years. For the past 5 years that we have been seeing each other I've done more traveling with him then in all the years of my life previously! He's now doing about a week-a-month in Windsor, UK so we meet up there more than anywhere else (Virgin)besides here in NJ. He travels frequently as he lectures (mostly in Europe) and comes here for conventions (& me). We've traveled together to a number of these conventions/meetings. He's really the frequent flyer (SAS & United) and has taught me how to 1) not make a big deal about an upcoming trip (somewhat successful) and 2) travel lightly (much more successful, however, I think he taught me this skill so I could carry more stuff for him!!!). Favorite trips so far - South of France and steamer up the coast of Norway. Anyway I love this board, its the only one I in which I participate (mostly reading-sorry). I check in daily. I've picked up a lot of good tips, enjoyed the traveling stories and hearing about the lives of flyerTalk community. Thank you all for the information and education. p.s. I'm a major cat lover. I was owned by a big red tabby for many years named Cinnamon. I miss him terribly. [This message has been edited by Catherine Boyle (edited 03-11-2000).] |
Welcome on Board Catherine Boyle, you must come to a FT event some time!
|
Hello and MEOW Neighbor Catherine from Eddie, Yaz and Meow-self! I know Grove Street very well... That's the station I take to get home from teh Shop Rite near Newport Center.
And if you really love cats, your dear will not mind if you get another. I could not live without at least TWO cats!!! |
Originally posted by shadow: Tell us about yourselves, please. :) Favorite activities: playing string quartets, going to restaurants so I can figure out whether I can duplicate the dishes, visiting vineyards. Former favorite activities: chasing brunettes, playing bridge, watching the Boston Red Sox get "so close and yet so far" - attended both the 6th game of the '75 series and the one-game '78 playoff where Bucky Dent hit the giant homer to end the season and my fandom. Favorite cities: YVR, SFO, SEA, and of course Boston and London. Arrived here by a stray link published in rec.travel.air (I think you can blame PremEx, but I am not sure) to which I have read-only access (because of my antiquated system, see above). I forgot to mention that I might not fit so well in here as I am allergic to cats (although I do like them as persons). I do however love a good chunk of sirloin, done blue-to-very rare!
