Hi, I'm Pete!
I've been lurking around here for a while but finally decided to register an account. I just transitioned from a Big4 CPA firm consulting job to an IT position with a major retailer. I owe my passion for points and miles to my first manager who literally forced me to sign up for every major hotel and airline program... so here's to you, Mark! |
Continental miles
First of all I want to thank all of you for your suggestions for getting miles. I now have enough for the next two vacations to Europe. Here though is a question - When I first called to inquire about flights to Brussels from Newark next July (2011), I was told that the FF seats were not open yet on Continental direct flights, so I had to take a partner airline, with one stop. When I called the next day to make the reservations, I found out that I could have the direct flight, but at 75,000 miles vs. 55,000 for the one stop flight, is this a scam?
Thanks |
Hello, my name is Roel and I am a philosophy student who enjoys traveling. In a previous life I worked for a big IT consultancy which allowed me to collect a nice starting capital of air miles and hotel points. My (very humble) goal for this year is to qualify for UA Prem Exec.

Thanks As you spend time here, you'll see that FT is organized into focused forums for specific topics. That's the only way to avoid total chaos with over ten million posts. This forum, CommunityBuzz, is for the social aspects of FT, and this specific thread is for members to introduce themselves to each other. Every major airline, including Continental, has a forum. That's where the experts on CO, who can help you the most, hang out. Many of them don't come here. I've asked a moderator to move this thread to that forum. |
Allow Myself to Introduce Myself
I've been reading the forum for a while and thought I'd sign up and introduce myself.
I've flown IAH-SIN twice in the past year, have another one scheduled in a few weeks, and will probably do this same trip three more times in the next few months. First two trips were business class (Continental through NRT and SingAir through DME) but thanks to current budget constraints I've been demoted to economy for the time being. DOH! I'm more than familiar with economy but never for a flight of this magnitude. That makes me rather apprehensive about my upcoming trip (SingAir through DME again). After reading this forum I've purchased a Komfort Kollar, thermarest lumbar support, and theramrest lite camp cushion. I've also got Bose headphones, ear plugs, bucky eye mask, and a cool max blanket from previous traveling. Any additional tips? Wish me luck. |
Welcome to FT!

Thanks!
I just spent the $100 to upgrade to a 'preferred' seat ($50 each way). Row 31 both ways which is the first economy row behind business class. (777-300ER) That should be an improvement over "seat assigned at check-in" option that I currently had! |
Welcome to FlyerTalk SingHomer!
If you are traveling for business, what does your corporate travel policy state about air travel in excess of X hours? I know my last company's policy used eight hours as the determination between coach and first/business. If that is not an option, and you can make your own reservations, look at a higher fare class ticket to you have a better chance of an upgrade (depending on which air line you fly) based on your status. Travel safe and good luck! |
Hi,
My name is Steve and I'm an aviation enthusiast. I enjoy reading about the industry (past and present) and have various collections and displays focusing on the '70s and '80s. I fly at least twice a year to football games and will be looking for vacation tips in general. |
Hey Everyone,
Earlier this year I set the goal to climb the tallest mountain on every continent as well as run a marathon on each. Now it's time to figure out the logistics of such a challenge on a limited budget, so I'm here to learn all about Frequent Flyer miles and how to use them to book some fairly complicated itineraries. Learned a ton already and looking forward to learning so much more. Unbelievable community here. Cheers, Tyler |
Well I should probably introduce myself even though I just created my account here.
My name is Mads, I am 27 year old from Denmark and live in Rio de Janeiro with my fiancee. I work with online gaming which I have done about 6 years now. I love to travel and visit new places. I will try to help people with the tips and I will use the site for tips to my own travels. I am a member of Tap Victoria as I will fly a lot between Europe and Brazil |
New To Flyer Talk
I am new to Flyer Talk, and hope to learn more about mileage runs from Seattle as I try to attain Alaska Airlines MVP 90K status this year through Alaska and its partners. Eric (near Seattle).

Hi everyone,
My name is Jeremy. I'm a long time lurker, but just recently started posting. I'm 25 and I work in a sales/IT position driving policy and procedure for our CRM system as well as training our sales team. This position is a new development for me and has me traveling a lot more than I did in my old role (inside sales). I'm new to a lot of this and am figuring it out as I go. Fly US Airways almost exclusively because of my location in rural PA. Started traveling heavily in July and will easily make Silver by the end of the year (possibly Gold with a few more trips). Some of my hobbies are guitars/music, golf, and reading. Nice to meet everyone and I look forward to contributing when I know more. Jeremy |
Hello...
Hi everyone...
Nice to be here... Wnat to now how to Fly in this Flyer talk forum... |
Hello from YAN (Yet Another Newbie)
Hi All,
I'm new to FlyerTalk - came here by way of a recommendation in BritishExpats.com Currently living in Southampton, UK, but about to move to Phoenix, AZ in USA with work (9th Nov, yipee!). I travel a reasonable amount, possibly more in the future as I pick up global responsibility for sales training for a US-based semiconductor company. I am a BA Exec Club (Blue) member, and would love to find out how to get around the pain that is flying lots on economy tickets and racking up very little in the way of points...! I am sure I'm doing something wrong or not at all! That sounds a little 1-sided, but that's not my intent - also looking to provide support to fellow members of this forum in any way I can. Cheers Harry |
