posted by GoldCircle: It's time for revenge The less said about Scotland's performance on Saturday night, the better but it was a great day thanks to the company of Dave Noble (for pre-match beers) QF WP, JohnSydney2000, NickP 1K and a brief appearance in the beer tent by martyn riddle and martyn riddle's mum. A big thank you to all. In Canberra for a few days, then back to Sydney on Wednesday for Scotland v Fiji on Saturday 1 Nov - hopefully with QF WP. Anyone else in Sydney from Wednesday through to Saturday? [This message has been edited by ajamieson (edited 10-26-2003).] |
I think somewhere in Darling Harbour could be a winner on Wednesday or Thursday evening. Would love to do something Friday but, as it is MrsMR's birthday and I am flying to Melbourne on Saturday for the Eng v Ire game, I think I would be singing falsetto if I vanished that night!!

It would be good to catch up on Thursday night if possible. You mentioned Thurs night darling harbour..that sounds good. And I know QF WP is arriving back in SYD staying close by at 4 points (the hotel not the rugby try). My next moves: Fri 31/10 QF51 SYD-BNE 12:20-12:50 If anyone is travelling out of SYD Int and hasn't sampled the QC 1st Lounge, they would be welcome to be my guest. Sat 1/11 17:30 South Africa v Samoa with family Sun 02/11 QF 517 BNE-SYD 09:10-11:40 Again, happy to meet with any fellow travellers in the local QC, although of course on Sunday morning, I know you will all be in church. Followed by 20:30 NZ v Wales at Stadium Australia (aka Telstra Stadium). Edited for spelling [This message has been edited by JohnSydney2000 (edited 10-26-2003).] [This message has been edited by JohnSydney2000 (edited 10-26-2003).] |

Really enjoyed meeting up on Friday and Saturday, and I think everyone liked my favourite Stadium. I am sorry the result could not have been better for Scotland. I am in town till Fri am so have suggested Thurs night as a get together time in a seperate post with martynriddle. Now at risk of this becoming on-topic, how was your Dash 8 flight to CBR on Sunday. It is really just like a bus ride for regular commuters to the national capital, but I like the minties on descent. You don't get them on the big birds. (Note to: willyroo please diarise this QF related comment.) See you Thurs maybe, I am off for the USA v Japan game tonight in Gosford, via the picturesque train journey up through the Hawkesbury River region. (I wonder if sake will be served in the last carriage?). |
What a game - Ireland V Argentina - 0730 kick-off here in Ireland - never heard so many neighbours shouting at that hour of the morning !!
(when we scored the try) Must have been the best (or at least hardest fought) match of the tournament to date. A pity that Argentina are out and other teams with a far lower skill and commitment level are still in the competition ! |

Now, who do we barrack for tonight - Georgia or Uruguay? SYD-CBR was fine (although the beers in the Qantas Pub courtesy of QF WP helped to ease the journey...) although I think my 737-400 was last refurbished when Sir John Kerr was Governor-General. martyn Thursday night would be nice...drop me a line if it still works for you. |
now aj, you know that I couldn't possibly mean the jocks !! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Just saw the latest world rankings - make more interesting reading - our boys must be getting dizzy being that high for so long - it won't last !! |
Originally posted by ajamieson: martyn Thursday night would be nice...drop me a line if it still works for you. I'll be there from about 7.30pm - all welcome. |
martynriddle, I'm just going to miss out - get into SYD on Thursday at 8.40pm so am heading straight for 4Points Darling Harbour.
You're not around Fri PM for dinner (probably down in one of the Darling Harbour eateries) with me, Dave Noble, ajamieson, yyzprincess, see my thread here in Community and post me a message there. |
Sorry, martyn, my ISP had server problems earlier in the week and I never got your mail - but I may join you later on if I'm back from the Blue Mountains in time.

Had an excellent dinner with martyn riddle last night at The Oaks in Neutral Bay while Romania and Namibia slugged it out in Launceston.
While lots of people ared heading to Melbourne for tomorrow's sportsfest, anyone else is still welcome to join QF WP, myself and others here in Sydney tonight. We're meeting at the 4 Points near Darling Harbour at 6.30pm then perhaps grabbing a bite to eat nearby after. |
Good to see the official 'sweaty' mascot last night again http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Looks like the URLs above got transposed - The Oaks website can be found here |
posted by martynriddle: Good to see the official 'sweaty' mascot last night again To clarify, for an international audience which might otherwise infer that I have a personal hygiene problem, it is rhyming slang. Sweaty...sweaty socks...jocks (scots). Yesterday was another good day for the FT Community board. QF WP managed to secure a ticket for the sell-out Scotland v Fiji game...and very kindly called me to offer the seat. I don't think I have ever looked so happy at that time on a Saturday morning! In return, he now has a ticket to see Australia play in the first quarter final in Brisbane next weekend. Smiles all round http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I'm returning to Scotland today but if anyone has RWC quarter final or semi final tickets that they cannot use (unlikely, I know) and want to exchange them with other FTers, this would be a good place to do it. |
DOH! I haven't put the images up yet... Too much going on.

Scotland 16, Australia 33.
What a sensational match. I'm now confirmed for EDI on 27-29 Nov, with my first ceilidh on the Friday. I probably won't do as well then against the Scorts ( http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif)as the Australians did tonight... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
