Alastair, just looked at our tickets - Mrs QF WP and I will be at Gate A (Milton Road side of the ground). We'll be coming from work, so with game starting at 7.30pm, we'll probably walk there (work in Spring Hill, so only 4kms).

We'll be catching bus from Caxton Street (nearer Gates C & D, opposite end to Milton Road) to home pretty much after the game.

Where are you seated and when are you thinking of getting there??

I'll be dressed in tan pants, tan long sleeve shirt with a Scottish scarf. You'll look like a mascot http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif.

Tuesday night, 21 Oct, in BNE sounds excellent; I'll let you choose a venue. Will drop you a line when I'm there.</font>
I'm in for a brew or 2...

When are you off to SYD? I'm on QF52 8:40am on Thursday 24th.

Great to meet you ajamieson. Pretty unconvincing win by the Scots though - we were sitting behind a row of visitors from Edinburgh.

How about meeting tonight with Willyroo and me?? I'll SMS you.

Anyone going to the Argentina v Romania match on Wed night in Sydney? Tickets on ticketek.com are A$15 each... just released some new seats if you're in town could be worth going. I've already booked some seats down there for work, so if you're down there, at sydney footy stadium, let me know!

Just bumping this comment from NickP 1K. Any SYD based FT'ers with ideas?

NickP 1K, I met ajamieson just inside one of the Gates of Suncorp Stadium at last night's match SCO v USA in BNE and had a beer (Heineken http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ) before we went to our separate seats. Perhaps this could be our fall back position. I'll be at Gate E.

As I'm not a local, I'm as lost as you...

NickP 1K Oct 21, 2003 5:12 am

QF WP; you've got my mobile number via email, right? If not, shoot me an email and I'll resend it. Let's try to just meet ad-hoc before the game on Saturday.

Sounds like a good bet...we may even come up with a plan on Friday night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Enjoyed meeting willyroo and QF WP for dinner and a pint or two last night - and a brief glance at the Italy v Canada game.

Yup, Monday's game was rather insipid and I'm rather dreading Saturday. Hey ho. Suncorp Stadium is fantastic - but whoever at the IRB decided to ban bagpipes from the crowd (because they might give Scotland an unfair advantage over the USA) has obviously never heard a pipe band in full flow. Inside the ground all you could hear was the band playing - from the outside.

kawoh I did think about tonight's game in Sydney but unfortunately made other plans. Daresay I'll catch it on a pub screen somewhere, though http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Dear QF WP, Hope all is well in married life.
Hope you had a great honeymoon. Sorry you can't make it on Friday.
I also have tickets for Sat 25th France v. Scotland. It should be a good game at a great venue. (I know, I am biased !)

I have a suggestion about where to meet, as Olympic Park is very large, and logistics can be daunting, even for us locals.
The main pedestrian street, Olympic Boulevard runs in front of Stadium Australia (aka Telstra Stadium). Most will arrive by train and walk directly out from the station and proceed straight ahead 200 metres to Olympic Boulevard. On the stadium side, you will see a large number of tall light pylons, each named for an Olympic host city, stretching into the distance.

I suggest we meet at the "Paris" light pylon, as from memory, it is one of the closest to both the train station exit, and the main Stadium Australia entrance (and the "Olympic memories" outdoor museum of the Sydney 2000 games for that matter.)

You will find the host city name "Paris" in metal on the concrete base, about 1 foot off the ground. I am happy to be there from 6pm to 6:30pm, and we could adjourn for drinks after that, or whatever. The foyer/bar at the Novotel can be a good , slightly less crowded spot, if it is open to the public on the night.

To be specific, I will stand on the raised concrete platform as close to the "P" of "Paris" so that those that don't know any other FT'ers can say hello. So that is a 1 foot square area to aim for. I will wear a red sweater. I will be there from 6 to 6:30 pm. Please post if you want to meet outside these times.

I have two reccommendations for first time visitors. 1. Come out to Olympic Park early, not late, and 2. Set aside 20 minutes or longer to look around the free "Olympic Memory Poles" outdoor museum of the 2000 Games . Don't miss the videos.

So it should be an excellent match on Saturday, and look forward to catching up with L. and any other FT'ers who might be out at Olympic Park for the game.
Regards, John.

JohnSydney2000, you are indeed a legend! Problem solved for our meeting. I'll be there after seeing Dave Noble in the City early PM Sat (alas, he's working Sat night) and possibly alect.

I will be catching the train out to OP from Town Hall.

Have printed out your instructions, so hopefully others like martynriddle will read this as well.

Novotel or inside SOP...whatever goes...so long as it's alcoholic http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

P.S. Great photo's of you and alect in his Trip Report

(Edited to correct spelling)

JohnSydney2000 this is an excellent plan, thanks for the input. Look forward to seeing you tonight and Saturday night.

Both games should be fun. I actually saw some of the Boks yesterday at the 'Bok Bar' at Darling Harbour. Did a double-take when I saw Barry de Wet sipping a coke on the terrace...

NickP 1K Oct 23, 2003 8:35 pm

I'm leaving the City aprox 5:30PM or so... should be there around 6PM...

Am still wondering what MrsMR and MumMR will think of the FT clan, particularly as she will have arrived in Sydney that morning on a 30 hour Asiana Airways flight from LHR!!

Hope to see you there. We are sitting in Bay 120 - nice and close to the action, albeit behind the goal. I am a couple of bays along (118) for the final so it will give me a good indication of the what the view will be like. For the 3rd/4th playoff I am up in the heavens in Bay 621.

For those who are interested, ajamieson and I had our photo's taken and are on the website RWC Photo.

We are on Row 4, Shot 7 from the left with a lovely Coca Cola girl between us.

Alas, when we met up later with JohnSydney2000, martynriddle and NickP 1K, we couldn't find her again!!
