OK, here's the situation. (No, my parents didn't go away for a two week vacation.)

Having just switched back to UA, I only have 30,000 miles in my MP account right now. I'm going to tack my trip onto my trip to India, but I'll want to fly my boyfriend out LAX-BCN just for the weekend, which will require 50,000 miles.

Now, my trip will earn me 40,000 or so miles, so I'll be back up over 70,000 by mid-October.

Anyone willing to buy a 50,000 mile award ticket for me next week and I'll buy you 50,000 miles worth of *A awards in October?

So considering I'm supposed to be in La Gaude on that Friday and Madrid that Monday, I have no idea how on earth I didn't connect the dots and realize that my company may just be sending me to the SiDo http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Won't know for sure for a couple more weeks, but if all goes well, I'll be seeing y'all in October. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Confidential to GKG: No.

Robb: Can't help you there but I bet if you reset your post count to 3 and ask in Coupon Connection you'll find something in no time http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

dmfriedman: Woo hoo! We'll be looking for you.

robb:

I may be able to help, but the mileage required required from LH for an econ ticket is 57K, not 50. I only have ~68K in that account, so can't get him in the front cabin. If that is of interest, let me know and I will email you and we can see what is available.

Am I missing something in this chart? I thought it was 50,000 UA miles for a North America - Europe Econ Star Alliance Award.

I figured I'd try Coupon Connection next, but thought I'd post here first. I need to firm up my dates to India and then I'll know more.

robb LH mileage redemption is higher than MP but so are the miles earned per segment. It is not in sync with MP in terms of earning / redemption. To me it would be 55K (not 57) for 50K it would be a NA to EU for a NA to EU.

Let me know what you think.

I'm sorry, I guess I'm still misunderstanding the question.

Are you saying that you have LH miles and it will cost you 55,000 LH miles to buy the ticket? If so, I can only pay you back in UA miles (the only place I have miles) and it would only cost me 50,000 miles to get you an award ticket of your own from NA to Europe.

Or instead or you saying that it would cost me 55,000 miles to buy a ticket on LH using my UA miles? If so, can you explain that to me, as the UA website shows me a cost of 50,000 MP miles to fly on any *A carrier from NA to Europe.

I've never done a swap like this before, so sorry for being dense about it, but it seems like the basis of exchange would be a ticket from North America to Europe. You give me one of those, I'll give you one in return, and everyone is even.

Alan my dear, with all the hassle of moving to Hong Kong and existing work trips in October, I am afraid that Sean and I will not be able to make it to Sitges.. I'll be in Singapore Oct 3 for important meetings for the new job you see.

Hope to catch you in Asia though !
