Well, since a few of you have chimed in, and you haven't opposed the date change, I'm thinking that June 12 is OK with folks.....

re. location, I glean that Rock Bottom is preferred if there are specials-- but there don't appear to be any. So, should we try for Austin Grill then??

Trying to make this a democratic process.... ... and firm up the date/location so folks can plan.

-----------

Early planning for July 25: guess we have 2 options on the table, Potowmack Landing and the Doubletree revolving restaurant. Thoughts/preferences? (P.S. I won't be able to join on July 25-- have plans to go to CA, FWIW, so you guys can have fun without me. )

June 12th works for me, as long as the place chosen is in the general area of Rock Bottom, since I know my way around that area, I have no preference for where we end up.

July 25th seems okay but its still a ways away, my vote is for Potowmack Landing.

Put me down for yes (either date). I'll be in DCA for ACLU conference 06/11 - 06/15 at the Omni (I'm staying at the youth hostel though).

Wow that will be two flyertalk get togethers in two weeks - PHL in June and DC in June!

What a great concept, you see the room spinning and then you start drinking. Usually the reverse happens to koko and us.

I would vote for Rock Bottom as long as we avoid the mayhem of Wednesday $1 pint night. Thursdays should not be a problem plus we could reserve a group.

Firstly - shame we will miss you this trip around Viajero Joven as I gather you are away yourself in July - or just the Friday? Have not seen mdtony post for a while - is he still about the boards?

We had a great night at this Foster's inspired gathering last year at Tony's bar in Washington.

We are very honoured that the monthly dates have been juggled around to co-incide with our short visit. Right now we are still looking pretty certain to be in town 4 days on the way back from the Dusseldorf Dooo III.

We arrive from AMS at 3.25pm Wed July 23, and leave for the 22+ hour marathon IAD-LAX-SYD Sat 26th at 5.45pm, so ANY EVENING that fits your normal pattern will suit us just fine.

i.e. if the regulars prefer Wednesdays or Thursdays, instead of Friday that is no issue whatever for us if that keeps things to your normal monthly groove. We will 'go with the flow'.

We are staying at Marriott J.W. hotel National Place, 1331 Pennsylvanaia Ave. No clue at all if this is near transport to where you settle on for the evening, but I am sure we'll manage.

One of the 2 suggestions for a July venue was this from gleff, which does sound superb for out of towners like us. And I do believe I read the magic words they do have a "Happy Hour" in one of the other posts? Music to the ears for those of us from a country with a currency on par with the Mexican Peso.

Sometime we ought to do something at Potowmack Landing by DCA.
  • Sit outside..
  • Watch the planes land..
  • Overlooks the water and the monuments..

Seems like a good pick at some point.

Ozstamps,

You can take the subway out to Virginia from your hotel and I (or someone else) could pick you up at the subway station closest to the restaurant which is either the airport or Braddock stop.

Oz, I have tickets to fly out Friday 3pm.... so I'll be in DC that month just not that night!

Re. location for June, sounds like people continue to talk about Rock Bottom and nobody has voted for Austin Grill, so let's call this the official 2 week change notice that Rock Bottom Bethesda will be the place. I'll post details on the first post.

Neat.

As I posted earlier, Wed or Thurs or Fri is nonevermind to US. If Thurs suits the normal groove better, why not set for then? If you are the MC for these Viajero Joven this only seems wise.

Oz, that's very thoughtful.

I'll leave the final consensus to the group.... but Thurs would be better for me as a buddy is flying to Mexico Wed.

I'll be leaving for the Portland Brewfest on Friday morning but would be up for something Thursday evening. May I suggest The 94th Aero Sqaudron?

They have a nice Happy Hour with a DJ on Thursday evenings and a beautiful outside terrace area off the lounge overlooking the runway (spitting distance away).

Well you can't have a party without an M.C. ..........

Thursday July 24 seems like it fits in well then for Viajero Joven? And certainly want to meet up with tazi so Thursday fits well for that too ... that Aero Squadron place Kath links to looks neat to me - what do others think?

Too far away for me. I'm all for Gleff's watering hole suggestion.
