Humiliation

There is a wonderful parlor game called Humiliation. The goal of the game is to name something that you haven’t done that everybody else in the room has done. To win you have to embarrass yourself, hence the name: Humiliation. For example, at a social gathering of English professors, admitting that you have never read Hamlet would glean you a lot of points--one for each person who had read Hamlet (and you might also earn the disdain of your colleagues). At a Fraternity party you could score big points by confessing to your Brothers that you never got drunk and threw up.

So, in context of Flyertalk, what rudimentary travel skill or feat do you lack that everybody else has accomplished?

Jailer Sep 24, 2000 12:28 am

I’ll Narc myself out first: I have logged more miles in cars than in airplanes.

Dorian Sep 24, 2000 3:41 am

Never used a travel agent in my life.

Never made a mileage run.

cigarman Sep 24, 2000 10:12 am

Never redeemed an upgrade coupon, since I was too lazy to keep track of them! If everyone who reads this flies UA, I'm going to win this game! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Never lost my luggage.

Fly By Night Sep 24, 2000 10:49 am

Never got bumped, but I've been trying! (Any pointers?)

MRLIMO Sep 24, 2000 11:24 am

My best kept FlyerTalk secret. I've never spent a single mile on a flight award for myself, business or personal! I just can't cope without earning miles.

Jailer Sep 24, 2000 11:29 am

I am ashamed of you people! Keep ‘em coming.

essxjay Sep 24, 2000 12:24 pm

Never used a skycap. My Midwest upbringing won't allow anyone else but me schlep my own luggage. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

l etoile Sep 24, 2000 12:33 pm

I never get the max miles possible out of trips. When a non-stop is available, I just can't bring myself to book the miles-rich multi-seg itinerary instead. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

High Life Sep 24, 2000 1:33 pm

I've never bought an unrestricted ticket. Just do the best I can if plans end up changing. Ever spend 3 days in Kalamazoo?

Schutzee Sep 24, 2000 3:04 pm

I've never traveled for business.

Dorian Sep 24, 2000 3:41 pm

opus17, fly by night, essxjay, letiole...

never done those things either...

Dorian: So no points for me, huh?

How about this ...

Never been questioned by US Customs.

Catman Sep 24, 2000 5:02 pm

This is travel related:

*Never been to Thailand and had a thai Massage.

*Never flown southwest.

It's not travel related but...

*NEVER been to an "IN and OUT" burger joint and NEVER been to Taco Bell.

DO I WIN???

PremEx Sep 24, 2000 6:09 pm

I have never had an airline affinity credit card.

wingless Sep 24, 2000 6:30 pm

I have been to ORD but I have never been to Chicago. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I have been to IAD but I have never been to DC. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Pretty pathetic huh?

Do I win?

Punki Sep 24, 2000 7:21 pm

I have never placed myself on a waitlist to upgrade using certificates.

essxjay Sep 24, 2000 7:35 pm

LOL! Great stuff people. Keep it comin'!

RichG Sep 24, 2000 8:57 pm

I've never bought flight insurance.

BTW, essxjay, midwesterners do not schlep, they carry. I schlep. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

magic111 Sep 24, 2000 9:23 pm

Never had a Krispy Kreme

Never had a Samuel Adams

Never bought a ticket except the cheapest coach available - and if it wasn't cheap enough found a reason not to go.

AnnaS Sep 24, 2000 10:10 pm

Never been outside North America (but that will change soon!)

I've also never had an affinity card.

Rudi Sep 25, 2000 1:43 am

my (swiss) IRS declaration shows that I never did any non-business-flights ...

NJDavid Sep 25, 2000 4:57 am

I never wanted to do any of this anyway.......

I wanted to be...... A LUMBERJACK!!!

Catman Sep 25, 2000 6:24 am

I also never been to Portland! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

And I've never flown Northwest! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif or http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

geo1004 Sep 25, 2000 6:36 am

I've never met Rudi. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

CATMAN- And I've never flown Northwest! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif or http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Tough choice, especially since NWA serves pepsi! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

hsi.chang Sep 25, 2000 7:14 am

I've paid for an upgrade instead of earning it.

Jailer Sep 25, 2000 7:52 am

I didn’t want to have to admit this, but with the bar being set so high, I need to bring out my trump card: I’m NOT a member of the mile high club.

doc Sep 25, 2000 8:04 am

Nor am I a member of this distingushed club! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Car, bus, train (and all many years ago) but NEVER on an aircraft! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Catman Sep 25, 2000 10:40 am

This is Commander Catcop, and I think this thread is borderline adult related and I think we should shift back to some g-rated things...

Like: I have never been to Amsterdam but I heard they have nice windmills there.

Thank you.

ORD12 Sep 25, 2000 12:06 pm

I have been to CDG (and all over Europe!), but I've never been to Paris.

I have also never been to Mexico. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

smooth Sep 25, 2000 12:19 pm

I always feel some kind of sick obligation to declear every single penny of my purchases abroad if it exceeds the regular $400 custom allowance. Like a fool, I am known for listing a $5 souvenier in my declaration and paying a duty on it. Custom officers probably have a good laugh every time I dutifully march to the window to make my $1.00 or so payment for exceeding the $400 exemption. Sick !

The Viking Sep 25, 2000 12:47 pm

Being a serious wine collector with prohibitive prices in my own country:
1.
-Never taken an international flight with less than 20kg's of hand-luggage..
(But: Almost always within the max. size limits; now that's efficient packing!)
2.
-Always declared my wine purchases with customs. (You don't want to see a grown man cry.)

kyklin Sep 25, 2000 1:09 pm

I never did read the Hamlet.

I never got drunk and threw up at the party (and I was in a fraternity).

But I am an honorary member of the Mile High Club (TM).

The Viking Sep 25, 2000 1:18 pm

kyklin:
What's the difference between an honorary and a regular member of the Mile High Club; being caught? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
