Like mdTony said, you don't need to change the time. I just don't want to drive all the way down there and find that everyone is already gone. Places near Bethesda probably work best for me but I'll find my way to wherever you choose http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

dlnewbie Nov 11, 2002 4:07 pm

I like the Bethesda idea myself since I work in Bethesda, does anyone else have a problem with Bethesda.. that works good for me because I often end up at work late on Thursdays, but don't mind staying later if I'm in Bethesda

I live in Bethesda, so obviously, that would be convenient for me as well. The only problem there is that if I say, let's do it there, someone is going to ***** and say, well, I live in Arlington, let's do it there. So, to avoid that, I am picking places in the District.

If someone else wants to pick up this ball and run with it, feel free.

whlinder Nov 12, 2002 10:00 am

There is no reason we can't rotate the area in which we have these things.

I think it would be good if we rotated between DC, Bethesda, Rockville, Arlington/Alexandria, Fairfax, etc.

whlinder Nov 12, 2002 11:24 am

The Bethesda suggestion got me thinking about a Mexican place that lmlinder and I love but have not been to in a couple of years. It is called Cactus Cantina and I swear it used to be right on the DC/MD line on Wisconsin Ave. but it seems to have moved down Wisconsin to 3330 Wisco. Ave. Looks to be about halfway between Bethesda and Downtown. Great food and drinks.

El Boocho Nov 12, 2002 12:02 pm

The only issue I see with Cactus Cantina in the Cathedral area is that it is not Metro accessible. I don't know if that is a problem for some folks.

tazi Nov 12, 2002 12:33 pm

How about the Bethesda McCormick & Schmick's? It is very close to the Bethesda station.

Viajero Joven Nov 12, 2002 2:30 pm

Bethesda works for me...... time is flexible, after 6pm.....

... but preferably someplace Metro accessible.

mpc1 Nov 12, 2002 2:49 pm

Hopefully you'll allow a visiting YVR based FT'er to join your gathering on the 21st. I'll be visiting DC between the 20th & 22nd and will be staying at the Hilton Embassy Row. Anything accessible by metro would be great.

My other suggestion would be Rio Grande Cafe on Fairmont Ave. which I love! It's also not too far from the Bethesda station.

El Boocho Nov 13, 2002 8:01 am

All good suggestions. Has anyone been to Grapeseed? I have not.

kokonutz Nov 13, 2002 8:16 am

Doggonit!!!! I'll be on a friggin' airplane on the afternoon/evening of the 21st!

My favorite Bethesda watering hole was always Flanagan's Irish Pub, but I guess since I can't come, I don't get a vote http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif.

MatthewClement Nov 13, 2002 8:42 am

I'm coming to Washington from 24-30 December to celebrate Christmas with family & friends. Would love to catch up with some FTers for a drink or two during that time, if people are around and available.

Anyone up for it?

dlnewbie Nov 13, 2002 12:05 pm

Ok .. so November 21st.. what's the place ..

Rio Grande
Flanagans
Montgomery's Grille

mdtony Nov 14, 2002 9:17 am

Okay, since we are set with the 21st, and folks seem pretty deadset on Bethesda, I will pull the trigger early and say let's do it at the Austin Grill, on Woodmont. It's a fun place and I have spent far too many days downing far too many margaritas there!

See you there next Thursday at 6:30.

dlnewbie Nov 14, 2002 10:04 am

Thanks Tony, I'm not good at being the decisionmaker. I had this same problem in the COMDEX get-together thread..

See ya there

Definitely. Email me when you get a chance and I'll work out all the details with you. I think I will also do a, to be politically correct, "holiday" get together in December. This one should be one where you bring all your friends and we all have some fun.

My offices close from Christmas to New Years so I'll be available.

mdtony Nov 21, 2002 7:43 am

I am looking forward to sucking down some margaritas with you folks today. Be there!

El Boocho Nov 21, 2002 9:20 am

I'm in!

Just passed up great Caps seats to booze with you fools.

kokonutz Nov 21, 2002 9:54 am

STUPID 17:30 IAD flight. Next time first round is on me, promise!

Viajero Joven Nov 21, 2002 9:58 am

Maybe a little early planning, but....

I propose the next happy hour be in Ballston.

+ In VA

+ close to downtown

+ on Metro

There! I said it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Unos, maybe??

You beat me to it.

Is there an Unos in Ballston?

Viajero Joven Nov 22, 2002 8:48 am

whlinder, there sure is: on Wilson Blvd. across the street from the mall. Looked right at it while at Memphis BBQ on Tues. Have eaten there, too. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Last night was really fun-- drew FTers from far and wide (YVR). Of note, especally for a DC based event, was the lack of US cockroaches... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif although I wonder if UA flyers can be considered honorary cockroaches.

Looking forward to next month. Someone mentioned "Why Thurs.?" so I bring that forward: thoughts for or against? For me, Thurs. works well-- but this is majority rules, right? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

biggs Nov 22, 2002 8:52 am

I missed it because Bethesda was too far for me to get back to DCA for my flight. Ballston or DC would be nice next time. I can often be found at the Rock Bottom at the Ballston mall since I usually visit one of our offices across the street.

I may have some of our new cockroach pins for those die hard US fans if I can get there next time.

I like Thursdays because I figure on Friday, you're competing with like a dozen different things that folks want to do. Plus, on a Friday night, seating is more difficult to find because you've got a lot more people out.

Just my two cents.

As I live and work in Alexandria, I'd be game for meeting someplace in Ballston. I also like the Rock Bottom Brewery or if you want mexican again, there is Chevy's. Maybe at a future happy hour we can meet at some place in Old Town?

MDTONY and all:

Thanks guys, I'm glad I was able to hook up with you last night. It was really good to put a few names and faces together and share a glass or two. I'm glad your monthly get-together matched my business trip.

Cheers

I think I speak for all when I say we enjoyed having you down and look forward to seeing you at more FT events.

El Boocho Nov 23, 2002 11:21 am

mpc1 - Glad you could make it. Sorry the Caps couldn't put a mark in the W column for your game. Seems to be par for the course these days. Hope you enjoyed otherwise. Come back and visit.

Bump.....

Thoughts for a date in Dec? I'm thinking the week of Dec. 16.......

Tues. or Wed. may be better since people might have holiday plans toward Thurs.

The week of the 16th is probably a good time. I think that Thursday would work out well because people would be looking to do one last thing before heading out of town.

It might be a lot of fun. We should pick some place with a Christmas theme.

dlnewbie Dec 4, 2002 8:36 pm

That Thursday is bad for me, so Tue or Wed would definitely work well

TribeFlyer Dec 5, 2002 10:36 am

Thursdays are always bad for me, but I'm free on Wednesdays till after New Years...
