I still haven't seen any form of "firm plans"... though having lost track of my workgroup get together for the Super Bowl, I'd certainly be willing to kick off the Monday lunch concept a bit early... the game starts at 10 a.m. Monday morning in SYD. If someone can recommend a good place (ideally not too far from the Four Seasons) to watch, and would like to join me, I'd be up for a FT SuperBowl party in SYD

dmfriedman, at this stage its 50/50 whether i'll be heading to BKK on Thurs 23/1. so if i'm free on Monday, would be great to catch up. I can suggest a couple of places no more than a 3-5 min walk from the 4seasons. The brooklyn, The metro, Establishment, Republic. All have TVs, cold beer and food. If i'm around on that Monday, i'll be free around 11-30 or so to head out. I'm only a few mins walk from your hotel.

monday sounds good to me. I land early that morning and after a quick shower/nap at the hotel, I can wander over anywhere. Just name the place and I'll be there. Sporting my very visible US Flag Rugby shirt, of course

Do we have any plans yet gang? I am assuming we are aiming for Monday at this point. I am now departing Wednesday AM, but am still looking heavy on Tuesday.

Okay, here's what I'm going to do... this weekend, I'll check out some of the places kawoh suggested. Before Sunday night, I will post here (at the top of this thread via an edit) a location for a SuperBowl get together at a pub on Monday. It will have to be some place that opens before 10 a.m., as that's game time, and I intend to sit butt-firmly-planted-in-seat from 10 until the Lombardi trophy is awarded.

The Establishment (garden bar):

The Metro:

Brooklyn:
Can't find a website, but they serve thai and western can get quite noisy with the wooden floors.
Republic:
New pub, on the corner of Bridge and Pitt Streets in the city, lots of TV's, a TAB, and a very nice restaurant on the top level.
Here is a list of pubs in the rocks area naer the 4seasons (some can be grubbier than others):

Slow service, slow kitchen, mediocre food.

latitude, is this since they revised their menu? i think they have a new business running the food in there as of about 6-8 weeks ago, food came out in a flash (well less than 10 minutes...) but it really isn't the greatest place, the food was avg. establishment has a much nicer feel, don't know how loud the plasma screen tv's will be during the match.
now for the sad news, unfortunately i won't be able to make the catch up, i'm now confirmed to BKK.

I still like the earlier suggestion of meeting at B Watson's hotel and that superb library bar at The Observatory on Monday. Located in The Rocks basically so very central to Four Seasons (nee Regent) etc.

I agree - let's meet at the B Watson's hotel and head to the Observatory for the game/drinks. We've only got a week left, and I don't want us to end up at Tony Roma's!

Okay, I'll take my earlier post back... and I'll look forward to meeting y'all at The Observatory in SYD on Monday. With a game time of 10 a.m., I'll plan to be at the hotel around 9:45... is that too early for folks? If people want to join later, sounds like I'll then be in the library bar.

Ok - I'll shoot to be there around 9:30 or so. That's AM, right?
Quick question - is the Observatory over the bridge from the CBD/downtown? I don't recognize it on the map. Just wanted to know if I needed to cab it/take the subway or walk...

OK ...... sounds like we have the germ of a deal here.
Hope B Watson is in on this! However, his earlier post did say he was arriving 'at noon Monday'. Not sure whether that was to his Hotel (The Observatory), or to airport, so shall we set things a little later than 10am for this? Noon or 1pm maybe and then we can have lunch?
Very classy olde-worlde library bar, and a few 100 yards walk from the Regent/4 Seasons.
From Darling Harbour where I think Corbetti is staying is not really walkable unless you are very keen. A cab is about $US5 with tip or less to there.

oz,
after a 14 hour flight, I'm game for a 3-mile walk (that's 5 km to you
)
But can you tell me where the observatory is in relation to the harbor bridge, the Opera house, or the Westin on Martin Place? I know the concierge can point me if it comes to that....
Thanks!
And any time is fine with me. I think we were shooting for morning so as to not miss part of the Bowl...
