SYD 1/24-1/28

I'm going to be in SYD 1/24-1/28 for a "business trip". I won't have any way to get around, but if anyone feels like dropping by the Four Seasons for a drink, let me know.

I'll be there from Jan 27-Feb 6, so count me in! I'm staying at the Four Points on Darling Harbor. There are lots of great places around the CBD that we could meet up at. Anyone else?

Looks like i'll unfortunately miss both of you. I'll be away from the 23 Jan. But i'm sure some of the other FT'ers in SYD will be able to set something up! Enjoy this beautiful city.

Business trip/Four Seasons?! Sounds like a major boondoggle to me!

And in Sydney - your feet as well as buses and ferrys will get you around just fine.

I'll be in Sydney from Jan 31 - February 6. First time in Australia, would love to enjoy a good meal somewhere (currency exchange rate makes this possible for even cheap people like me!)

I'm staying at the Westin.

Hey... we have a one hour meeting scheduled on Sunday morning. Hence, a business trip. At least that's what our friends at the IRS say!

As for those in town, Liz is right -- I can in fact get to random places. If someone "in the know" can recommend a good spot for a drink (I guess I should own up to the shameful fact that I don't drink beer, but I'll drink most other inebriants), the only times I'm not free for sure are Sunday morning, Monday, and whenever the Super Bowl is actually on. (Speaking of which, can someone tip me off to how likely and when I'll be able to view the Super Bowl out there?)

You guys know I suppose that Sunday January 26th is Australia Day. (i.e. basically your 4th July/Thanksgiving -take your pick!) There will be 1000s of things going on that day and the city will be gridlock. Regattas, Air displays, Tall Ships races, Jazz, Music, Parades, etc. Summer here, so warm and sunny of course:

www.australiaday.com.au/sydney_harbour.html

The Public Holiday will be Monday 27th in NSW. So lots of things will be closed then - keep that in mind for your day to day planning.

ALSO keep in mind that there will be a BIG fireworks display in Darling Harbour on Sunday at 9pm you should NOT miss. Corbetti shopud fly in a day earlier as his Hotel looks right at it! There is a massive 9pm fireworks on NYE, followed by the world's most spectacular one each year at midnight centred about the Bridge. HOWEVER, this year it was windy at 9pm so they cancelled it and held them all over for Australia Day so will be the biggest ever. THESE will be fired from Bridge too it looks like:

www.sydneynewyearseve.com.au/austday_fireworks.htm

And expect this type of stunning deal so DO pack a camera:

I am booked to fly down to and from MEL on Tuesday 28th to have lunch with Rudi and Gisela, so Tues 28th is out for me.

What time Mon 27th does Corbetti arrive ..... as he may have somehing I need to pass on to him anyway?

Can I suggest we try and arrange something on Monday 27th after Corbetti is settled in?

Hi All,

i'm trying to get into the hotel a night earlier, and get United to change me (although with the 15A upgraded seat in the upper deck, i'm not giving that up for fireworks - i *do* live in Washington, DC, after all and we have some pretty cool fireworks here once a year ;-)

But seriously - if I can't make it a day earlier, I normally arrive around 8:30 am to the hotel, and after a quick trip to the gym and a shower (and a flat white or two) I'm good to go. So lunch/dinner/drinks is fine. There's a fun little bar on the harbour called Cargo we could meet at if that works...?

You have a Sydney Harbour Bridge in Washington?

Well I for one hear ya re giving up exit row 15 upstairs on a UA 747 for ANY reason! You never realise just HOW good UA is upstairs until you fly Thai. We had a shocker last week on TG "Business Class". The 1980s re-visited.

If Monday lunch (27th) sounds best for you, AND if that also suits dmfreidman perhaps it is worth opting for that now to set something in stone? Wonder if Spider is also around that day?

As I mentioned above, Monday's not very good for me. We're watching the SuperBowl as a team, then I've got my massage appointment. Then the Opera House. Can't you tell this is a business meeting?

I'm free almost any day other than Monday...

Corbetti.
Dont plan on getting into the Four Points early n 27th.
the hotel will be sold out from the 26th Australia day celebrations .
They are not the easiest hotel to get along with when they are full as it is a HUGE hotel.
many a timeat this hotel I have been told checkin is 3 and that is that.-unless you have a prior arrangement!!
I am actually in the hotel the night before and we are leaving at 11 so we may be of some help there.
email me and we can talk.
