Two members to serve time out for thread disruption

I think it brings much satisfaction to members of FlyerTalk when they can enjoy posts and replies to a thread that stays on topic. These same members unfortunately from time to time are inconvenienced when a threads signal to noise ratio is tagged by personal comments that have no place on FlyerTalk. There does come a time when our ability to be tolerable of these instances is taken advantage of.

Based on a non-topical dialog on the following thread, I have suspended the posting privileges of both johnfpage and ozstamps for an undetermined period. As in any situation, it's sometimes a judgement call and if you watch sports at all you know that many times the penalty goes to both the person instigating the action AND the person responding.

It is my hope that you continue to enjoy FlyerTalk by sharing the topic of frequent flyer miles and points and the general topic of travel.

It sometimes boggles my mind how some people here on FT seem to take things a lot more personally than they should. I, like most others, have avoided or ignored a thread if we did not like it, and FT is all the better for it. With as many visitors as FT gets, and as many posts, there are bound to be posts that we do not like, but ignoring them and moving on is easy, and good, for FT. For those who don't move past these threads and let such threads bother them, try to ignore them...you will be amazed at how your blood pressure drops and your stress disappears

Good call Randy...although it would have been nice if the call had never needed to be made.

Were I johnfpages attorney, Id argue, Your Honor, self-defense is always justifiable.

Were I the parole board in the other matter, Id say, Sir, your continued transgressions do not bode well for your eventual reintegration into our community. We cannot rehabilitate someone who seems so committed to recidivate. Sadly, not everyone can function in every society.

Were I the time-out warden, Id lament, Put em in the SHU (special housing unit) so he can reflect on his behavior.

Really. It's just an internet bulletin board, for heaven's sake.

Randy,

I'm a little confused by this. Obviously it is your call on the penalties, and I have no quibble with that. But you indicate that you are doing it because some FTers might get bothered by annoying threads. And then you post the link, so that anyone who hasn't been annoyed by this one yet, can now go to the thread and read them and presumably be annoyed.

Wouldn't it be better, if you find a thread to be worthy of the penalty box, to delete the thread rather than broadcast it?

Many FT'ers have indicated that they would like to know more of what kind of behaviors get one banned form FT. Perhaps Randy was repsonding to those requests???

Call me a fool, but perhaps seeing/reading the thread in question will allow members to learn what Randy considers disruptive to FlyerTalk?

Anyhow, thanks for the information, Randy.

(as to publication of the penalty - no comment as to the participants or their behavior)

For a while now, I've been sticking to just watching over the AA forum, and not really bothering with the rest of FT. So yesterday, I decide to check out the Community, say hi to AnnaS, etc... and of course this thread.

I see nothing has changed one bit with the rest of FT, history does indeed repeat itself once more.

I guess that answers the question I posed in the referenced thread.....
