Oregon Brewfest SEA Arrivers
New thread for this subset of the upcoming event .
It all started when USAir failed to come through on their promise to serve PDX, the US weenies decided that SEA would be the rallying point before the final assault on PDX. At first, a limo SEA-PDX-SEA was recommended. Others have suggested a choo-choo train (my experience on the Acela was enjoyable enough, and it looks like Amtrak is funded for another month or two). Of course, this IS FLYertalk. I'm TRYING to figure out transport...train is 4 hours and $53 RT....limo is $600RT for 8 people...air is $108 RT but I dont even know who is doing it. Soooo....starting from scratch: 1) Who is VSOIng through SEA 2) How do you prefer to make the final assault on PDX??? 3) Do you want to play in SEA friday night or make a late-night run to PDX??? - please explain VSOI
- ever heard of rental cars...? - where is the night life better, SEA or PDX? |
My take:
Arrive SEA at 7:39pm Friday Depart SEA at 2:25 Sunday Right now I have a downtown SEA room Friday night and a PDX room sunday night. I'm cool with taking the train or flying in the morning, or limoing late-night friday or saturday morning. Basically, I'm up for anything. Duh. |
Oh yeah... any cheap (upgradable) fares on UA out of EWR or JFK? Also, dont forget to post this on TOBB. Chex/auh2o/Geo-- I hope you all show up... I dont think I can handle Mr Matt Wald all by myself... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

VSOI: Visual signs of intoxication, the standard for being cut-off or denied bar entry in Portland, Oregon as many of us found out at last years brewer festival.
Rental cars: Ever hear of DUI http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif Better night life: See VSOI. |
Arrive SEA,
have some fun in SEA Fri. night, rental car on Sat. morning to PDX, Brewfest Saturday, return to SEA on Sunday morning. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

OK, NEW THOUGHT.... TRAINS ARE COOL http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif
A train from SEA to PDX on Sat. morning is a good idea... why? Plenty of room. No need to worry about bathroom space. Bar car. Cheap. Same thing on the return to SEA for Sunday... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I vote to choo-choo from SEA to/from PDX. |
Currently: arriving SEA 6:15p on Friday, departing 3:54p on Sunday
I'm cool with the train or the limo. I don't care if we do Friday night or Saturday morning as long as we aren't being too antisocial with the PDX arrivals crew. |
Train options:
07/27/02 751 Seattle, WASHINGTON (SEA) Portland, OREGON PDX) 7:30am - 11:00am OR 11 Seattle, WASHINGTON (SEA) Portland, OREGON (PDX) 9:45am - 1:55pm AND 07/28/02 750 Portland, OREGON (PDX) Seattle, WASHINGTON SEA) 8:45am - 12:15pm [This message has been edited by Matt Wald (edited 07-01-2002).] |
To think I booked a ticket into Seattle instead of the one I already had booked into Portland because I thought you guys had this all figured out already ...
First, I'm getting in later than most of you folks it looks like ... 9:43 PM ... though I should be in the airport before geo (since he's got the window and I've got the aisle http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif). My flight is out of SEA at 2:05 PM on Sunday ... Just to be contrarian, my personal preference would be to get to PDX late Friday night. May I suggest renting a large vehicle and carpooling it to and from PDX, with the vehicle most likely staying in the garage while in PDX (VSOI and DUI and all other things considered)? I'll even volunteer to drive if you guys and gals want to go that route ... even though that would mean moderating my consumption on the flight to SEA ... maybe that's not such a good idea. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif For the train route, where does the train arrive into and depart from in SEA and PDX? |

Cool... thanks Koko. Fares are not half bad. Trains are OK, or we can rent a nasty SUV from Hertz and I can be the designated driver... I have never trashed a Navigator... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Punki-- to pay my respects to Your Ladyship is the only (real) reason for my journey.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
