I'll actually be in town for a friend's wedding that weekend and would love to come to a happy hour or dinner if I can swing it. I've never been to a FT event before but I'd love to meet some other FTers.
|
Count me in - just got a great fare. Looking forward to it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry I didn't see this thread until now. I'm from DC (go to school in STL), and could probably make it back for a weekend. I interned on Capitol Hill last summer and could easily give you guys a tour of the Capitol, but that would have to be on a weekday.
PS - If anyone knows of any companies hiring econ and management majors, please let me know http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. |
Thanks to BingoSF and Mashav I got a cheap fare for this event. I guess we'll have a fun weekend in the nation's capital.

geo chimming in: I'm moving out of the DC area before this shin-dig hits town, but if I'm back in town I'll try and join in the fun.

I am convinced that I will never meet the elusive geo. (Then again, unlike other FT non-believers, I'm not quite ready to rank you up there with the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny yet....) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |

Looks like I will be in Crystal City that weekend . .. please count me in as a definite (maybe - cuz things have a tendency to come off the rails where I work).
|
Things still look good for my attendance!

Uhhhhhh as a stupid post.... Mdtony, when is this thing again? (I didn't want to try and read the whole thread again and get wrong info)

HeyZipper, its June 26 - 28
|
Actually, I believe the plans are for the weekend of June 28th to the 30th -- the 26th through the 28th is mid-week.
|
Okay, folks, just to reply to a bunch of different questions, this thing will take place from June 28 to June 30.
We are getting close to the wire here now, so I'd like to know how many people are confirmed. I need to get back to the restaurants to let them know how many people we'll be bringing. I'm ready to sign the contract with the restaurant for the brunch on Sunday, and if I can ever pin down the guy on the price for the Saturday dinner, I'll ink that as well. There are minimal charges involved for me in order to hold the space, so don't worry about that. Dinner, just so you know, is looking like it will be around $40 or so, not including tip and tax, and the brunch will run $30 including tip and tax. If you want to see the brunch menu, here it is. http://www.phillipsfoods.com/html/gbuffets.html Folks, I need a final go/no go from you guys by no later than Friday of next week. Thanks! |
Oh, I'm SOOOOO jealous*
I wish I could make it but I'm already completely swamped that weekend. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif *(c) Rudi 199?-2002. |
Hey, guys. What do you folks say we blow off the Saturday night dinner and just go to Dave and Busters instead? I think we can have a really fun time with that.
|
I'm in for anything. Just wondering where everybody is staying. Still trying to find out where to stay. I have a room reserved at the Hilton Embassy Row right now.
|
If I were to be available for 12 hours, which 12 should I pick?
|
Im in for Dave & Busters. Always liked that place. Wish they had one here.
|
Another vote for Dave & Busters.
|
I'm in for Dave and Buster. I was just thinking that a big supper and then another big brunch would be too much.
|
I broke down and ticketed this today when I saw a UA fare hovering at $200 into DCA.
I'll be in early evening on Friday and I'll stay until Sunday evening. |
Then D&B's it is. Hey, to keep it aviation related, they even have a game there where you can pretend to fly an airliner, and of course, they have all the fighter simulations.
|
As long as you cant pilot the airliner into a building.
Ive seen enough of that in real life. |

Is there still going to be a happy hour on Friday night? I've got my friend's wedding on Saturday so I can't come to Dave and Buster's.
|
We are doing the following:
Happy hour on Friday, from say 7:00 PM until whenever Dave and Busters on Saturday, from say 9:00 PM until they close Phillips brunch on Sunday, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Hope that helps! |

I'm not trying to shoot holes here or anything, but I am coming to see my friends... I see this as a negative as:
1. if we are all off playing video games and not socializing, why am I coming to WAS to do this AND 2. if we all have to watch our watches and leave before the bar closes, that goes against the whole flow of so many fun FT events I've been to where the party continues well into the wee hours of the morn |
Is there parking at D&B in Bethesda?
I will have a car and am staying in Sheraton Tysons Corner, VA and will be happy to drive people back around there. Theres a Hilton there too. |
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by ljp99: Is there parking at D&B in Bethesda?</font> |
Ahhhhhhh, yes. The classic Washington DC issue. There's a city, there's Virginia, and there's Maryland. There's a bunch of bridges, a river, some traffic and a Metro that's great if it goes where and when you need it. For folks coming in from out of town to IAD or DCA, trecking to Bethesda for D&B's may be a bit out of the way. Heck, for someone in VA it's out of the way...
Gotta admit that my one experince at D&B's was not a whole lot of fun... we spent a lot of time getting to Bethesda and then people played games. Sure, you can drink and/or eat but the place is not too conducive for socializing. Now, Buffalo Billiards at the Dupont Circle metro stop... that's another story. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

Thanks for the quick response. From what I remember of Dave & Busters in Chicago (many years ago) it was also a bar/restaurant , so its not just video games. Is that correct? Also, just went to website and got directions from/to Tysons Corner, Virginia. 20 minutes is not that out of the way. [This message has been edited by ljp99 (edited 06-06-2002).] |

But if we are all in different rooms, that still does not solve the lack of socializing issue. Meanwhile, geo's idea of a centrally located, Metro-accessible pool hall that serves food is brilliant. Plenty of socializing and two very important FT event requirements - stumbling distance to some of the hotels, cheap cab to others. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Also, Buffalo is around the corner from the Brickskeller, which has 800 different kinds of beer.
