As an aside it is quite a while since BellissimAA posted here. (Or perhaps anywhere else on FT?) And without taking sides in the issue, that is a real shame. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I have followed this thread from the first post. I have to say for a few days I tended to suspect the person in the original photo posted probably did not exist and had a feeling the post was simply a 'wind-up' that got out of hand. I had somewhat similar thoughts to dhammer53 when he posted way back on June 17. The airbrushed photo on the website looked too much like it was lifted off a magazine, and there was nothing else on the webpage except that photo. But as they say, 'a week in politics is a lifetime'.

Nice to see this young lady does exist, is clearly a very nice person and stuck to her guns at all times. She arrived when and where she promised, and it is rather sad to have read much of the preceding pages with that in mind. And given BellissimAA certainly does exist had every right to respond how she did - and how. Any of us would have done the same surely on a BB where you knew no-one and were getting a 40 gun broadside simply for being yourself?

I for one hope BellissimAA returns to posting here, and Joh and I for starters would be pleased to meet her and to buy her a drink if she makes it to SeaDoo4 in August. dhammer53 will be there, and hopefully lisamcgu and it would be wonderful if 2 months down the track all three could with the benefit of hindsight, sip a beer and laugh about this very unusual example of group dynamics 'a la cyberspace' at work. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Flyertalk is something. Isn't it.

Since Arturo has asked me to comment, I will. (Arturo has the power).

I'm paraphrasing 2 of the 4 original sentences I wrote, so bear with me.

"Is that her original picture, or someone else?

I think it was a fair, if not too quick to judge, comment. I get plenty of mail from Classmates.com and other websites that have these really great pictures in the heading.
When B...AA showed that picture, I was sure it was a joke. I was really surprised that 'everyone was so gullible' (my original quote), but it looks as if I was the one who was had.

But aside from that, I'm really disappointed in many of you that 'encouraged' this, with your words... to go on.

It certainly is amazing from my above quote, and the above paraphrase that those 2 statements, (and relatively innocently said) were inflated to make a mountain out of a molehill.

And to think I was accussed of being prejudice. What was that all about?

If you could have seen the private e mail I received from B...AA you would have thought I was a witness to a crime, and didn't come forward.

I didn't read this post again till it was a few pages old. And I can assure all the naysayers that I will NOT be opening it again.

I have enough trouble dealing with the real world that I don't need the aggrevation of a post gone bad. Just not worth it.

I'm sorry that some of you may disagree with me. Oh well. I'll get over it.

So in conclusion, to B...AA, I'm sorry that this post got out of hand. But lets face it, the cyberworld loves this stuff.

I'd like to say thank you to the folks with the nice comments. And shame on the folks that egged this thread on.

spelling edit

Dan

Glen, I feel just the opposite. I hope that BellissimAA has seen the direction this particular thread has taken and chosen not to respond. Amazingly (perhaps not), everyone who actually met her says she is a delightful person and that they enjoyed her company. I hope we do see her participation elsewhere on FT!

For those who have not met her, it is, as you say, an interesting "example of group dynamics 'a la cyberspace' at work".

Believe me, I know all about you Aussies and your drinking habits. Thank God that when I bought an Aussie drinks, I was paying in Kiwi money. Even there, that wasn't cheap night! And all this for a kiss goodnight from someone who lives on the other side of the world, literally. Oh, well, she could have read the ingredients from a cereal box and I would have been more than happy to listen.

To be honest with you, I am amazed that some people stick around. Just check out the UAL board for some pretty blatent hostility towards employees.
I guess, though, that you have to have a thick skin to do their jobs, and you get used to it.

I think there is an easy way to understand some of the "bitterness" of some of the people that posted trash on this thread. Some people with a lack of self confidence cannot stand it when others have a lot of something that they dont. I would love to see a picture of some of those that crashed this party.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I think you're totally right. Geez, the girl has the guts to put her picture up so that folks can see what she looks like, and you trash her for it? I mean, given the fact that she was looking to meet some folks in Seattle, wouldn't it only make sense to have some way to identify her? I remember trying to find a couple of folks in San Fran when I was there, trying to have lunch, and I was like, um, is that him like 100 times. That was not fun. Imagine what it would have been like at a busy airport.

And while I didn't crash the party, if you want a look at me, I'd be happy to provide you with a link.

Bitterness, huh? After oz's post a while back, I thought all was settled and I wouldn't post anymore, but ignorance demands it.

Yes, I can be nice, but I can also be a right b*tch. Yes, I can be bitter, but I can be sweetest most feminine girl you ever met ... but, WHO CARES?????!!!!!

I'm not the issue. The issue is that someone - we still don't know who she really is (hello?!) - as a joke, or for real, presented themselves with all the keywords and attitude one finds in a personals escort ad. The "fake" ad I placed in my previous post isn't really fake. I gleaned all that's in it from her original posts and picture.

Finally - yah, I'll say it - this whole thing stinks.

Starting with her sliding into town, having lunch and never being seen again. For all we know, she could be from Seattle.

When "Bell" supposedly couldn't wake up from her nap to make dinner, Punki, where was she sleeping? I thought she was here on an 8-hr layover from somewhere here in the US? Who needs to go to bed after that or get a hotel? And, if she stayed at your place, Punki, since you seemed to be in charge of this whole thing, why didn't she go to dinner when you went? What, she wanted to get a cab and see what it was like to make it to dinner on her own?

Punki, from your posts, where your main explanation for all this smell is that its the naysayers who have a problem (yah, I'm jealous of all the attention the young Mr. Chexfan was going to load onto Bell instead of me, and I'm sure dhammer53 was too - eek!), you seem to be hiding behind a smokescreen of defaming detractors instead of just coming through with some clear answers.

Why is that?

Punki Jun 25, 2002 8:12 am

Gaucho, I absolutely agree with you. I know I am insanely jealous of gorgeous, clever, sophisticated, multilingual, world travelers (like you) who actually get to live in my favorite city in the whole world, NYC. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I just reread this thread and am fascinated by its development. Commencing 6/12/02, we Seattlites and BellissilmAA were all having a fine time planning our party with the delightful BellissimAA, when out of the blue on the 17th, Dhammer53 posts:

I'm really surprised that nobody mentioned this yet.
Is that her real picture, or someone else's?

I can't believe you guys are so gullible.

I'll retract this statement if necessary. (Emphasis added.)

Dan
Not a very pleasant welcome to FT, IMHO. Think about it. Why would somebody who is going to meet us all in less than a week post a false picture?? Obviously it was her real picture.

Then all hell broke lose with people first mysteriously defending Dan's erroneous position, and then, apparently, defending their own position, even after they were proven wrong. As my hero Spock would say, Fascinating!

FlyerTalk is a wonderful, generous worldwide community, unique, I do believe in its openess and curiosity. In this instance some members of our community made some questionable posts based on inaccurate assumptions or loyalty to their friends. They were wrong and now it is simply time to apologize (retract) as graciously as possible, and move on.

BellissimAA is a lovely, smart, well-mannered, funny, spunky, talented young woman who just happens to be lucky enough to be very beautiful as well. Good for her! Good for us. We are lucky to have people like her in our community and I hope she sticks around and becomes a regular.

p.s. BellissimAA, if you come to Portland to the brewfest, Travelwearyand I will protect you from the VSOI crowd. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

lisamgcu-- Just to make sure you understand my post (after all, English is not my native language and my writing skills are rather poor) I was not speaking of self confidence, I was actually referring a more to looks... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

You better take some Mylanta, we at FT wouldn’t want you to get an ulcer... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

If you want to meet new friends, you are also welcome to post something in your own 'style'. People are very sociable around here, I’m sure you will meet some new people. Smile... and be happy, it’s a lot better and healthier than being bitter.

Oh my sweet, wonderful, scarf-clad Punki. Have you ever known any of the VSOI crowd to be anything less than perfect gentlemen? We are kind, caring, compassionate and loving people. We seek nothing more than world peace, hotel suite upgrades, frequent flier miles, first class travel and a good time! What could be the harm in that? I can assure you that anyone who wisely chooses to attend the festivities on the banks of the Williamette River at the end of July will not be disappointed. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

This is the end of the line for this thread. And in the next few days once i've had a chance to go over the posts here - I'll be glad to say to a few members, "You've got Mail."

I think that it's time for vacation for a few members because it is very clear here that you are not interested in FlyerTalk.
