How very ironic that the (cheap) shots taken at Catman have been here, in the FT Community (FTC) forum. The level of activity and friendship obvious here would suggest that FT is not JAFIBB, but a place that has brought together many people of different backgrounds, opinions, etc, etc...
Even a quick review of the threads (old and new) of FT Community (to say nothing of the airline forums), shows that FT is anything but JAFIBB.
It is not the first time an FT'er has received unpleasant emails from someone else. The reaction has usually been one of support -- instead Catman is told "Whatever" and when this reply is criticized, accusations of double standards are made.
Indeed, given that some in the IJAFIBB crowd are also the strongest proponent of the Community spirit (and have written at length on the "old times" v. new FT debate), I am quite astounded at the open season initiated following a simple (yet serious) query.
[Confused ramblings -hopefully- somewhat clarified.]

Catman,
I don't know you personally, and I don't do FT get-togethers, but I've always enjoyed your posts, and you've always seemed like an extraordinarily nice fellow on FT. On FT, as in life, your enemies turn out to be the people you wouldn't want as your friends anyway.
I look forward to reading many more of your posts, and I will be emailing you sometime soon with a cat-related question, as you seem to be quite the expert.

Anything may be said to be JAF[whatever]. Some even say this of life as a whole. That's fine, if you want to adopt that position. But please have a tiny bit of sensitivity for those who do not share your view.

While I don't feel like reading from the Catman groupies, I wanted to clear something up. My post was just a reflection of the EXACT same post by Catman on another thread, which came completely unsolicited. It has nothing to do with the content. Catman chose out of the blue to rain on my parade, so I rained on his.
What goes around, comes around.

I guess I should feel blessed that I only get email from certain FTers (thanks!) and not from certain others...
Why would someone expressing non-chalance to a thread feel compelled to continue using up bandwidth to read the thread and defend that indifference? Doesn't the need to explain a point negate the original attemp to make that point?

Since Catmans original post in this thread is edited..I may be missing a piece of this puzzle, so forgive me if I'm completely out of the loop here.
I have to say I think there is a bit of an over-reaction happening with the last few posters regarding pitflyers post.
Could he have taken the high road and just stayed out of it? Of course. But on the same token..The feelings of Catman amongst others on this board in regards to Oz and Doc's return was well enough known without him having to post in the thread. The high road was bypassed in that case as well. Had Oz done the exact same thing to Catman, I have a feeling he would have been seriously lambasted.
I dont think its fair to yell at pitflyer after the fact about the seriousness of the nasty emails received by Catman. Of course its horrid and cowardly... BUT at the time of pitflyers post (as far as I can see) the only mention of the content, was that it was about board business, then the post that he was called a sour puss. I've called FT'ers that I LIKE worse names than that (you know who you are buttmonkey) and I'm sure Catman has done the same so to condemn someone for not taking it that seriously in the beginning is a bit extreme IMHO.

As for spineless cowards who make a habit of sending anonymous e-mails, that is just pathetic.

FWIW, while both may perhaps be less than "purrfect", or even somewhat ill-advised, I've got no problem with the posts by CATMAN or pitflyer. Yet that may only be because I am far less than perfect myself!

Aren't we perhaps missing apples and oranges here? FWIW, I know CATMAN for nearly three years now, and also know OZ for about two years. I've never had a problem with either of 'em - nor they with me, that I'm aware. While I consider them to both be good friends, they do not seem to share the same enthusiasm for each other that I do for both of them! Perhaps, while I'm not holding my breath, in time this seeming conflict will abate if not disappear!
Also, I too have received unsolicited hate mail, calling me far worse than a "sourpuss", from among the FT "community!"
A bit more lightheartedness, as well as taking about travel, would go a long way here, IMHO!

I guess I don't understand how my comments are an "overreaction" or "extreme" as you put it or how "the feelings of catman amongst others" somehow justify the comment that is the subject of discussion here. First, how do the well known feelings of others have any relevance in this discussion? How do these feelings of others justify pit's reply on this thread? Second, those supposedly well known feelings of catman weren't known to me but I've only met him once at the same do at which I met you. I must be spending too much time flying off the handle and not enough reading the right threads where I could be getting involved in these meaty discussions.
Maybe I'm missing something too, did catman post in the oz and doc's back threads? (I don't know I didn't read them other than the first few posts). The only post I saw by catman was on pit's thread, a thread that I took to be designed as a joke, and I didn't "get" catman's post to be all that out of sync with the other responses to that thread. My total of 275 posts in almost 3 years I guess are evidence of how often I overreact and how often I've gotten involved in these types of discussions. Sure its IJAFIBB but that doesn't mean we all have to act like it's JAFIBB when we are on the board and only act like human beings when we see each other at do's. Anyway back to semi-lurk mode.
By the way, Missy, a friend provided me with a ticket to the mariners-yankees on Aug 16th so I am hoping to attend the sea-do.

Jerry-
I think there are two issues at hand in this thread. First..the issue with someone being cowardly enough to send anyonymous email. I, like most everyone else find it vile and cowardly.
The other issue that I was attempting to address was that everyone jumped pitflyers case over a comment that was made before anyone knew the seriousness of the matter.
All Catman had said was that someone had called him a SourPuss.
I'm VERY excited that you may be able to attend SEADo this year. If you give me your travel date range I'd be happy to keep an eye on fares for you. My email address is in my profile.
