Jet'Dillo: How about Sushi Chardonnay?
I recommend the $21 All You Can Eat dinner special.
I may be able to join others for dinner on Thursday the 7th; Friday the 8th doesn't work for me.

Sushi Chardonnay sounds really good to me (if the sushi is good, that is) for Thursday... How does that sound to the other folks who can do Thursday? Is it BART-able?
Friday... Is Zuni BART-able?

I would have liked to have made it to the sushi event but unfortunately have to teach a class those evenings.
btw dgolds I like your suggestions - but "locals" never say SF only San Francisco - you got it right once but blew it on the 100%
And even better like a true descendant of Herb Caen Jet'Dillo got it even more correct when he said The City - both words always capitalized.

Insisting on strictly BARTable limits your choices.
Transit within San Francisco is operated by MUNI; before you exit BART, purchase a two-part BART-MUNI transfer for $1.
Sushi Chardonnay is located on Union Street, between Gough and Octavia (west of Van Ness). The restaurant will be on the left (south).
Obvious routing: take BART to Montgomery St., walk one block [south]west along Market St. to Kearney. Board a MUNI 45 bus.
During afternoon/early evening hours, you may be better off with BART to Embarcadero, and taking the MUNI 41 instead. Return on the MUNI 45 (the 41 has limited hours of operation); enter BART at the Powell St. station (entrance on Stockton).
Those are the directions we give the tourists. We who know The City would take the MUNI 30X express bus to Chestnut and Van Ness; transfer to a southbound 42, 47, or 49; get off at Union St., and walk to the restaurant.
For Zuni, your best option is the F-Market streetcar. Exit at Gough (one stop past Van Ness). Zuni will be ahead on the right (north). Transfer from Embarcadero BART; return to Civic Center BART (7th St.).
Locals would exit at Civic Center BART and board the first outbound 6, 7, 71 or F that came by.
Best place to spend Thursday evening if FT dinner falls through, or is too expensive: craigslist party

How would Sushi Chardonnay on Thursday at 8ish work for everyone? Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals is at 5 pm - anyone interested in watching the game? Does Sushi Chardonnay have a TV?
How about Zuni on Friday?

I'll make reservations at Zuni if I know how many will come. Who else is interested in Chardonnay?

Spiff: The AYCE rate at Sushi Chardonnay has time-of-day restrictions. If you can commit to 7 p.m.--7:30 p.m. at the absolute latest--this will work. If it has to be later, we should pick someplace else. As they say over at Best Fares, "You Snooze, You Lose."
There are some decent tacquerias near the 24th St./Mission BART station... not exactly fine dining, but an "authentic" part of San Francisco culture.

I could go for either, although Zuni is closer to me(vaguely walkable even).
Either 7 or 8 are good. Part of the advantage of being "on sabbatical" is that my hours are my own.
